Summary of Position:

This position is responsible to assist with all aspects of general maintenance and capital improvement projects at any of the Paxton Ministries owned properties.  The Maintenance Assistant will take direction from the Maintenance Team Leader.  Paxton Ministries will help you develop skills and gain experience in the duties listed below.

 

Principal Duties:

  1. Assist with general maintenance and capital renovation projects of the building including, but not limited to: Electrical, Painting, HVAC, Carpentry, Drywall, Appliance Repair, Plumbing, Furniture Repair, Vehicle Maintenance, Flooring Installation, Grounds Keeping, etc.
  2. Assist kitchen and housekeeping teams as needed.
  3. Assist with fire safety drills, evacuation, and emergencies as required.
  4. Assist with care, keeping and improvement of grounds, including shrubbery, lawns, flower beds, and garden.
  5. Welcome and encourage volunteers individually and in groups.
  6. Fulfill evening duties and weekend duties as needed.  Third shift is unusual but sometimes required.
  7. Attend and participate in staff and community meetings as well as occasional resident activities.
  8. Stay current with personal care required trainings.
  9. Assist with Paxton Place as assigned.

 

Schedule:

This position has the following full-time schedule of approximately 41 hours per week:

  1. Weekday Schedule: Monday – Friday usually 8:00 am – 4:30 pm, including a ½ hour break.
  2. Weekends: Every fourth weekend (Saturday & Sunday approx. 19 hours scheduled).  A weekday off is scheduled for each weekend shift worked.
  3. Evenings: Flexibility to work occasional evening shifts (12 – 8:30 PM) typically 1 or 2 a month.
  4. Holidays: Assigned to 1 of 3 Holiday teams, which rotate through Thanksgiving, Christmas, or being off.

Qualifications

Professional Requirements:

  1.  High School diploma or equivalent.
  2. The ability to plan and execute multiple tasks at one time and to consistently work under specific daily deadlines with a healthy attitude.
  3. Experience in providing home care, long-term care, and/or experience in a similar Human Service agency is preferred.
  4. This position requires a committed Christian with a heart for working with mentally and emotionally challenged adults in a Christian residential care setting.
  5. Driving a vehicle for business purposes is necessary for this position.  That requires that he/she have a valid driver’s license, an acceptable MVR upon hire, and must at all times meet the guidelines in the Personnel Manual for an acceptable driving record.

 

Physical, Social, Emotional, and Spiritual Requirements:

  1. Physical: Ability to accomplish the tasks associated with this position is essential, including standing for 7 hours, lifting up to 10-40 lbs. frequently, assisting in lifting 40-150lbs as needed, frequent motions including but not limited to pulling, pushing, twisting, kneeling, reaching above and below.
  2. Social: Strong rapport with staff, residents, families, and professionals is essential.
  3. Emotional: The ability to receive direction, instruction, and correction with graciousness.  Skills of perception, understanding and caring for people are essential.  He/she must be patient, calm under pressure, emotionally stable, and not easily-provoked.
  4. Spiritual: In a visible role, this position requires spiritual insight, maturity and patience, which comes out of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Pray regularly for spiritual, emotional, and physical well-being of residents and for your own insight and wisdom.
