SCHEDULE: 10 hours per week

  • Wednesday 4pm to 10pm
  • Friday 4pm to 8pm
  • Additional hours may be available for other evenings or weekends

 

SALARY: $16.62 per hour

 

BENEFITS: Our part-time staff are eligible for paid time off, paid holidays, including a “birthday” holiday, as well as dental insurance and pet insurance.

 

PURPOSE

Under the direct supervision of the Building Maintenance Supervisor, this position is responsible for the general cleaning and upkeep of the library building and property both internally and externally. This position also involves meeting room set up. Overall, this position requires the ability to perform light to medium work while maintaining the safety and appearance of the facilities and grounds.

 

SUMMARY OF DUTIES:

This position comprises of the following essential duties:

  • Cleaning and Sanitation (approx. 60%)
  • Trash/Recycling Collection and Removal (approx. 25%)

Other non-essential job duties may include meeting room preparations and outside maintenance/grounds care.   

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Cleaning and Sanitation

  1. Cleans and maintains tile floors.
  2. Cleans and sanitizes all washroom facilities.
  3. Cleans windows and glass as assigned.
  4. Vacuums and cleans carpeting.
  5. Cleans furniture as needed or assigned.

 

Trash/Recycling Collection and Removal

  1. Collects and removes trash from various locations on the premises, including offices, workstations, common areas, and outdoor spaces.
  2. Collects recyclable materials and ensures the disposal in accordance with established procedures.
  3. Maintains and cleans trash bins, recycling containers and other equipment used in the removal process.
  4. May remove and dispose of other library material, as needed or directed.

 

Meeting Room Preparation

  1. Sets up and prepares meeting rooms, as directed.
  2. May clean up and reset meeting rooms following programs or events, as needed.
     

Outside Maintenance and Grounds Care

  1. Assists with outside grounds work when assigned.
  2. Removes snow and ice to provide safe access for the public and staff.

 

Other

  1. Activates and deactivates building security system when scheduled.
  2. Assists with inventory control.
  3. Assists with shifting furniture/equipment.
  4. Delivers and picks up library material and/or runs errands when necessary.
  5. Prepares for the daily opening and closing of the library, including unlocking and lock-up.
  6. Attends appropriate meetings, workshops and seminars.
  7. Serves on committees as assigned.
  8. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma (or equivalent work experience) required.  Some previous commercial janitorial experience desirable. Possession of a valid driver’s license and a favorable motor vehicle report desirable but not necessary.

  • Knowledge of supplies and equipment associated with commercial cleaning
  • Knowledge in the operation of janitorial and mechanical equipment
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety practices

Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a typical library environment
  • Work is performed while:
    • occasionally lifting up to 50 lbs.,
    • standing for varied lengths of time
  • May work in adverse weather conditions for a sustained period of time
