Managing Director, Tax Risk

The Tax Risk Leader will support internal tax risk activities while aligning with firm drive growth and tax strategy. This role will report directly to the Managing Partner of Tax Services while collaborating extensively with tax subject-matter leaders, tax-controversy leader, firm legal and firm risk. Building and driving risk mitigation excellence while focusing on continuous improvement across the tax service line to address uncertainties and ensuring resilience in an evolving landscape.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Facilitate routine risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities in tax processes and subject-matter positions.
  • Collaborate and engage with stakeholders, including subject-matter experts internally and externally, firm risk, firm leadership and firm legal to redefine and implement a realistic and actionable tax risk mitigation strategy. Including
    • Refining, managing and documenting internal tax risk framework and policies to maximize risk mitigation while supporting operational excellence.
    • Reimagine and manage firmwide tax practice examinations process while leveraging technology for process optimization.
    • Maximize risk management efforts by adapting strategies for emerging changes and performance metrics.
    • Operationalizing risk strategic initiatives, including maintenance of quality control policies, subject-matter expert designations processes.
  • Support ongoing team member training to support our culture of risk and process awareness and within the tax practice.
  • Support weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual meetings and events.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Accounting, or a related field; CPA, EA preferred. JD and/or LLM and supervisory experience are strongly preferred.   

  • 12+ years of solid tax compliance, consulting and/or tax controversy experience required. 

  • Strong conceptual and functional understanding of tax concepts, rules, and regulations.  

  • Demonstrated strong analytical, organization, interpersonal, problem solving, project management, change management skills, written/verbal communication skills in a fast-paced business environment. 

  • Ability to drive multiple projects and supervise team members with competing priorities.  

  • Self-starter, with initiative/leadership, and able to work independently when needed. 

  • Demonstrated level of technical proficiency with Microsoft Suite and process optimization tools.
