Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in music therapy principles / techniques and psychology.
Proficient in accompanying self and others on a variety of instruments.
Proficient in playing/singing a variety of traditional, fork, and popular songs.
Demonstrates knowledge of the potentials, limitations and problems of individuals following acquired brain injury.
Demonstrates knowledge of existing music therapy methods, techniques, materials and equipment and their appropriate application.
Demonstrates knowledge of principles and methods for evaluating the effects of music therapy.
Conducts music therapy assessments and treatments; communicates these findings and recommendations in written and verbal forms.
Selects or creates music therapy experiences that meet the patient’s goals and objectives.
Accepts supervision.
Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills.
Possess good interpersonal skills.
Willingness to acquire necessary licensing, registration, and certification.
Implements and evaluates music therapy program.
Recognizes, interprets and responds appropriately to significant events in music therapy sessions as they occur.
Ability to be flexible and work as part of a team.
Ability to work independently and in a professional manner.
General knowledge of computers.
Ability to communicate diagnostic results, treatment plans, and recommendations through both written and verbal communication.

Demonstrates NCI abilities and knowledge by successfully passing course, maintaining refresher courses as determined by NCI committee as well as implementing the knowledge with patients as needed.
Maintains CPR certification by successfully passing course and refresher courses as needed per policy.
Current valid Texas Driver’s License.
Education:
Bachelor of Music or Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Therapy with Neurologic Music Therapy Certification. Licensed by the Certification Board for Music Therapists.
Experience:
Prefer one year's experience with adults with brain injuries.

Obtaining impressions through the eyes of the shape, size, distance, motion, color or other characteristics of objects with or without adaptive devices. The major visual functions are: Acuity, far - clarity of vision at 20 feet or more.
Acuity, near - clarity of vision at 20 inches or less.
Depth perception - three-dimensional vision. The ability to judge distance and space relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are they actually are.
Field of vision - the area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while the eyes are fixed on a given point.
Accommodation - adjustment of the lens of the eye to bring an object into sharp focus. This item is especially important when doing near-point work at varying distances from the eye.
Color vision - the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
