Description

Underwriting Analysis and Documentation

  • Determines the acceptability of surety risks, based on the Merchant’s guidelines and marketing strategy. Operates within the authority established by the Senior Vice President-Contract Underwriting
  • Primary contact for underwriters and agents on all RAP submissions and approvals. Ensure final approval or declination to agencies on pending submissions.
  • Reviews agent submissions/applications and assures that business statements, personal statements and work-on hand schedules are analyzed and noted properly. Accurately evaluates for future profit or loss potential and verifies appropriate rates for the risk. Obtains background information and references in order to analyze and properly evaluate the risk. Prepares contract bond quotations.  Responds to questions regarding the proposed program and rate.
  • Assist and troubleshoot agent questions regarding RAP submissions.
  • Issue GIA’s for RAP accounts. Ensure completed indemnity is properly executed and stored in the ImageRight files.
  • Prepare periodic reporting and monitoring on RAP portfolio makeup and quality. Make recommendations to leaders on the data collected for future enhancements. 
  • Gather and prepare recommendations for future IT and/or process improvements that would benefit the RAP product.
  • Proactively engage with agencies who have not previously used RAP. Educate agents on the program. 
  • Performs year end updates on accounts and provides direction to the agent regarding further handling of the account.
  • Assures an accurate count of our contract bond backlog by keeping existing files and the status of existing bonds up to date.  
  • Maintains current File Notes, reflecting significant events and important information regarding the account.
  • Reviews specific contract bond forms and contracts to assess acceptability of risk. Recommends potential contract wording or revisions to make the risk more acceptable to the Company. 
  • Presents account terms and conditions properly so they are easily distinguishable and understood.
  • Serves as backup to other team underwriters in their absence to respond to client questions and issues. 

 

Training

  • Collaborate with contract trainer to create training materials for use with both underwriters and agents. Conduct training for agencies who are new to using the Hub. 
  • Serve as the primary contact regarding questions on how to maximize the site’s value to the agency.
  • Provides guidance to existing underwriters on underwriting support issues, documentation, compliance and billing.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:  Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in business, accounting, finance or experience in the Surety bond or Insurance industry.  Knowledge of construction surety obligations and financial statement analysis / accounting.

Experience with word processing, spreadsheets, and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office products preferred.

 

Essential Functions:

 

The associate must be able to analyze and evaluate financial information to assess risk factors. This associate must be able to communicate information effectively to agents and underwriters. They must be able to exercise independent judgment and numeric reasoning and produce work with a high level of accuracy. They must be comfortable making accurate decisions along with problem solving skills to resolve issues. Must have strong customer service and training aptitude. They must be able to work visually in a paperless environment.
