Position:             Crisis Coordinator

Supervisor:        Director of Runaway & Homeless Youth Services

At The Door, youth can access health care and education, mental health counseling and crisis assistance, legal assistance, college preparation services, career development, housing supports, arts, sports and recreational activities, and nutritious meals – all for free and under one roof. By providing participants with our suite of integrated services, we seek to provide any motivated young person with the tools, resources, and opportunities needed to successfully transition to adulthood.

 

The Crisis Coordinator will provide direct crisis intervention, short-term case management, and housing support to both new members and Youth within our Runaway and Homeless Youth department.

Responsibilities:

  • Meet with young people (through our Drop-In Services, Center Space, and Member Services who are in crisis to provide support, information, and referrals
  • Take lead on assessment and providing emergency housing intervention and referrals for Runaway and Homeless youth via referrals to DYCD-based and non-based shelters and TILS (Transitional Independent Living programs)
  • Screen and submit applications for our Individual Assistance Fund
  • Perform ACS mandated reporting duties as needed
  • Provide suicide/homicidal assessments and appropriate follow-up with young people in collaboration with supervisor
  • Provide short-term case management services for Runaway and Homeless youth
  • Follow-up on referrals to Door case management and/or counseling services
  • Escort young people to external agencies as needed
  • Document all crisis work including any safety plans and referrals
  • Assist with data collection, programmatic grant compliance and reporting
  • Develop linkages with outside organizations and maintain accurate and detailed up-to-date referral resources within the five boroughs
  • Participate in program and departmental meetings
  • Provide oversight of the drop-in space and provision of basic needs services
  • Update and maintain internal resources pertaining to housing, i.e., Street Sheet and DYCD Cheat Sheet for staff and participants
  • Other functions and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master's degree preferred
  • At least 2 years’ experience working with runaway and homeless and/or at-risk youth populations.
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply positive youth development principles to working with young people.
  • Familiarity with emergency and transitional youth shelter systems
  • Demonstrated ability to advocate effectively and professionally on behalf of clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and creatively as part of an interdisciplinary treatment team
  • Strong computer skills in MS Word, Excel, or other compatible programs
  • Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work independently and take initiative
  • Proficiency in Spanish, French, or Mandarin preferred but not required

 

Work Schedule: Full time- 10:00 am – 6:00 pm, 35 hours per week, some nights required.

Salary: $52,000
