POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Executive Director, the Health & Wellness Director is responsible for the entire Health & Wellness department including Group Exercise, Specialty Fitness Classes, Personal Training, Chronic Disease Prevention, Youth Fitness Programs and the overall management of the Wellness Center.  In cooperation with the other YMCA staff, and consistent with the mission of the YMCA, the Health and Wellness Director is committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Oversees a diverse and well-qualified health and wellness staff.  Develops, organizes and implements high quality health and wellness programs. Recommends leading edge equipment and oversees maintenance of all equipment. Ensures the quality and safety of the health and wellness offerings. The Health and Wellness Director exemplifies and trains staff in establishing a relationship-based community in which members feel welcomed, connected, valued and safe.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Exceed or meet membership retention goals by leading high member service and relationship building throughout all areas of the Health & Wellness department.
  2. Cultivate a member-focused staff team who are fully trained and educated to engage and support Health Seekers.
  3. Creates, implements, and maintains programs that meet the needs of the community to help foster healthy lifestyles.
  4. Prepare and manage department budget so that financial and program goals are attained.
  5. Hire, train and supervise staff for all areas of responsibility to ensure quality programming is being delivered to their participants consistent with the YMCA philosophy and mission.  Cultivate the professional development of the staff for growth and success.
  6. Conduct staff meetings and trainings that foster growth in instructors and meets their expectations.
  7. Provide coordination and leadership for all YMCA of Pawtucket prevention and disease support   programs
  8. Connect with medical community and educational institutions to become the recognized expert and  leader in the development of prevention/chronic disease support programs.
  9. Strategically establish and maintain clinical partnerships with the medical community.
  10. Work with the medical community to recruit program participants and encourage ongoing referrals for  these programs.
  11. Recruit, screen, and register eligible participants into programs.
  12. Monitor programs, collect data and constantly assess and improve program design, delivery, and community outreach. Respond to requirements from third party organizations for data collection and analysis.
  13. Through listening and experimentation, develop new programs and initiatives to meet the needs of our  target population both within the YMCA and throughout the community. Promote innovation in programs, recruitment and delivery.
  14. Assist in financial development through our Annual Giving Campaign
  15. Participate in Branch and Association Special Event fundraising activities and special events.
  16. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelors Degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science or related field
  2. Nationally recognized Personal Trainer certificate
  3. Minimum of four (4) years experience in the fitness industry with at least two years in a supervisor capacity.
  4. Must have proven success in fiscal management, fundraising, staff development, and community collaboration
  5. Training, certifications or experience with group exercise (Mossa Preferred), program development, YMCA fitness programs or YMCA specialist training or equipment.
  6. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
  7. Proven experience working with youth, teens, adults and volunteers
  8. Current national certifications such as ACE, ASCM, AFFA, NASM or NETA preferred, as well as CPR and First Aid certifications.
  9. Excellent interpersonal, Strong leadership, organizational verbal and written communication skills required.
  10. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.
