Title:    Collegiate Ministry Specialist, Tennessee Technological University

         Group:  Collegiate Ministries

         General Classification:  Ministry Specialist (Exempt)

          Immediate Supervisor:  Collegiate Ministries Director

Principal Function: To develop and lead Collegiate Ministries for Tennessee Baptists within the community of Cookeville, TN, especially within TTU.                            Responsible for developing local campus ministry programs in cooperation with local associations and local churches.  To                                  participate in the Harvest Field Ministry and contribute to completion of the Objectives of the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board.

Essential Functions: (Employee must be spiritually, physically, mentally and emotionally able to fulfill these assignments and tasks to fill this position.)

  1. Carry out assigned ministry with “Christ-Like Servant Spirit”, guided by TBC mission, priorities, strategies and goals. 
  2. Develop and lead appropriate local collegiate ministries that reach college students for Christ’s Kingdom.
  3. Communicate effectively in multiple settings, both with groups and one-on-one with students and other ministry stakeholders.
  4. Work with local associations and Collegiate Ministries Director in assessing the changing ministry needs of area colleges and universities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  1. Provide overall Pastoral/Worship/and Teaching leadership on the local campus through planning and developing collegiate ministry programs, including those components of ministry that meet BCM criteria related to evangelism, discipleship, missions and ministry.
  2. Work with the Baptist Collegiate Ministries Board of Cookeville, serving as staff support as the board provides ministry governance, providing administrative/accounting/fund raising and marketing responsibilities.
  3. Build positive relationships and partnerships with area church leaders, student ministers, directors of missions, university administrators, and other TBMB employees toward the purpose of effective collegiate ministry.
  4. Provide training and supervision of student leaders as well as provide adequate supplies and resources to develop effective ministry programs.
  5. Be prepared to provide or refer for appropriate counseling such as crisis intervention, pre-marital and marital counseling, substance abuse, issues of spiritual decision as well as life goals and values to students as needed.
  6. Give leadership to the daily operation, maintenance and supervision of the BCM campus facility to provide a safe environment for students.
  7. Supervise daily work of any campus missionaries, program assistants, or resident assistants.
  8. Serve on the Harvest Field Ministry team with other TBMB employees. Maintain regular contact with churches, pastors and staff as directed and report those contacts through prescribed process.  Contribute to the successful completion of the state Harvest Field objectives.
  9. Perform other duties as needed or assigned.

Physical Requirements for Individual in Position:

  1. Continuously communicates by phone, computer and in person
  2. Frequently walks extended distances, stands, sits at desk and works irregular hours
  3. Frequently lifts and carries 25 pounds, occasionally lifts and carries up to 50 pounds
  4. Able to drive an automobile

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications for Applicants: 

      Credentials and experience:

  1. Four plus years of college, MDIV or MACE preferred
  2. Three or more years in collegiate ministry, preferably on a major university campus

         Knowledge and Skills:

  1. Skills in leadership, discipleship, evangelism, and administration. Non-profit management experience helpful
  2. Good understanding of Baptist polity
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills
  4. Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Word, Excel PowerPoint and Outlook
