Brady is headquartered in Greensboro, North Carolina with locations in Winston-Salem, Raleigh, Durham, Fayetteville, and Wilmington. Founded in 1962 by Don Brady, the company remains a family-owned enterprise and today employs over 500 associates.

Brady works with building owners, facility managers, developers, architects, engineers and contractors to provide sustainable and comprehensive services for commercial and industrial facilities in central and eastern North Carolina. This includes a diverse range of building solutions in the areas of building automation, energy conservation, green design, HVAC mechanical system upgrades and replacements, preventative maintenance contracts, HVAC parts and supplies, access control systems, security systems, and world-class technical support. Brady is an authorized franchise of the Trane Company.

The Vice President, Contracting will serve as a key strategic leader, overseeing all aspects of Brady’s mechanical and controls contracting businesses. This role includes responsibility for Preconstruction, Engineering, Project Management, and Operations (both field and office). The VP will ensure the successful development and delivery of projects, drive operational excellence, and foster a high-performance culture within the contracting division of Brady.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Strategic Leadership:

  • Provide visionary leadership to the contracting team, fostering a high-performance culture with clear goals and accountability measures.
  • Align contracting strategies with corporate objectives to ensure the organization’s long-term growth, sustainability, and profitability goals are met.
  • Establish processes to improve project development, timelines, cost management, and quality control across all contracting projects.
  • Collaborate with IT and all stakeholders to assess artificial intelligence (AI) tools and identify opportunities to apply effective technology solutions across Brady's contracting operations

Talent Management:

  • Adopt and promote Brady’s Talent Philosophy.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain top talent within the contracting division.
  • Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for team members.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations, create or facilitate annual individual development plans (IDPs) for high potential and high performing Associates.
  • Engage team members to create and implement strategies for personal continuous improvement.

Sales and Pre-construction:

  • Collaborate with the sales and business development teams to understand customers’ unique problems and business objectives.
  • Implement innovative solutions that provide unique value, including hiring and developing specific project management skill sets, expanding offsite fabrication, utilizing various BIM applications, and engaging partners to supplement Brady’s capabilities.
  • Ensure that safety is designed into every job, including life-cycle maintenance activities that Brady will provide.
  • Oversee the preconstruction phase of developing budgets, estimates, proposals and planning for project execution, including subcontractor management.
  • Ensure accurate and competitive bids are prepared and submitted.
  • Facilitate timely and complete turnover of sold jobs to Project Manager and field operations.

Engineering:

  • Oversee Engineering Manager’s efforts to design systems that ensure constructability, optimize serviceability post-construction, and minimize the amount of field labor required for project delivery.
  • Oversee Engineering department’s operating budget to include staffing versus project load, actual versus estimated cost for individual projects.
  • Work with Engineering Manager to ensure engineering projects are completed in a timely manner, meet project milestones, and changes in deadlines are clearly communicated to stakeholders.
  • Work with Engineering Manager to select and manage qualified subconsultants to perform engineering and commissioning services in alignment with Brady’s quality standards, on time and on budget.
  • Ensure seamless communication and collaboration between the Engineering, Estimating, and Construction teams throughout the project lifecycle.

Project Management:

  • Oversee the execution of contracting projects, ensuring they are delivered on schedule, within scope and budget, safely, and in compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Ensure risk assessments are conducted during design and pre-construction phases, before work commences, and throughout project fulfillment in order to manage and mitigate all aspects of risk the scope and work site present.
  • Drive accountability and efficiency in tracking key project KPIs, including timelines, cost controls, and resource allocation/utilization.
  • Ensure clear communication is maintained with customers and other stakeholders throughout the life of the project

Operations:

  • Lead the overall planning, budgeting, and execution of contracting operations from preconstruction to completion.
  • Ensure efficient field and office operations, maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Implement best practices for operational excellence and continuous improvement.

Financial Management:

  • Monitor and assess the financial performance of the contracting division.
  • Develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and financial reports.
  • Implement cost-saving measures and value engineering efforts to optimize financial performance.

WORK HOURS: Monday thru Friday, overtime/weekends as required, some travel with overnight stays as required

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

This position works in a typical office environment with occasional visits to job sites, which include outdoor work and work in mechanical/equipment rooms. During the job site visits, the associate is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold; extreme heat; risk of electrical shock; and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Qualifications

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Professional Engineering License (PE) in the state of North Carolina is preferred but not required
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in progressive leadership roles within the contracting or construction industry.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale MEP contracting projects, including roles as project executive, project manager, superintendent, estimator, or pre-construction manager.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience with budgeting and financial management.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to drive strategic initiatives and foster a high-performance culture.
