POSITION OVERVIEW

The Career Navigator and Outreach Coordinator for the SolarCHILL Project plays a key role in supporting workforce development, community engagement, and climate resilience education under the BUILD program. This position is responsible for assisting BUILD participants with career navigation services, coordinating outreach and education for solar HVAC recipients, and organizing community events to promote sustainable energy solutions. The role requires strong communication skills, cultural competency, and the ability to collaborate with tribal partners and community stakeholders. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide career navigation services to BUILD participants, including job matching, resume assistance, goal setting, and interview preparation.
  • Educate solar HVAC recipients on system benefits, use, and maintenance. 
  • Develop and implement surveys to assess system functionality and gather recipient feedback. 
  • Organize and participate in community demonstrations of solar HVAC units. 
  • Host and participate in community climate events to promote the program and gather community input. 
  • Collect and analyze community input through surveys and engagement activities to inform program development. 
  • Create social media posts, newsletters, and other media to promote the program. 
  • Maintain accurate documentation and data tracking for all outreach and career navigation activities. 
  • Attend required training, workshops, and team meetings. 
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Associate degree in a related field (e.g., Workforce Development, Social Services, Communication) or equivalent experience. 
  • Minimum of one year’s experience in a similar role, preferably in a grant-funded program. 
  • Experience with community outreach, career services, or workforce development preferred.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is required.

Knowledge of:

  • Career navigation and job placement strategies. 
  • Community engagement and public education techniques. 
  • Solar energy systems and HVAC basics (preferred). 
  • Microsoft Office 365 and cloud-based project management tools. 

Ability to:

  • Interact with others in a culturally and emotionally sensitive manner.
  • Organize and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines. 
  • Collaborate with partners, contractors, and community organizations. 
  • Analyze data and adjust outreach strategies accordingly. 
  • Take direction and work with supervisor to ensure priorities are correctly aligned and accomplished.
  • Be effective working independently and as a collaborative team member.
  • Use good judgment, creativity; tactful, thorough and dependable.
  • Work a flexible schedule to accommodate attending scheduled works events and professional development opportunities, including weekends and evenings.
  • Travel to locations throughout Lake County to events, work sites, and community meetings.

Necessary Special Skills & Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • For work-related driving, must have a valid California driver’s license, a verifiable good driving record, and access to a vehicle with insurance that covers the employee as a driver OR reliable transportation with proof of automobile insurance.
  • Ability to travel locally and regionally, including occasional evening and weekend events.  

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, listen, and communicate clearly.
  • The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, unassisted using ergonomic guidelines.
  • The employee may lift and/or move up to 40 pounds unassisted and may occasionally move and lift heavier materials with assistance, in all cases using ergonomic guidelines.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The ability to travel during the day and/or night, sometimes long distance – possession of a valid California Driver’s License and access to an insured vehicle is required.
  • The employee will frequently travel to installation sites, community events, and partner meetings.
  • Interaction and contact with outside agencies, vendors, funders, volunteers, donors, and contributors is a frequent aspect of this job.
  • The employee will regularly use computers and computer printers, telephones, and other similar electronic office equipment.
