The Newsletter Marketing Specialist will lead efforts to grow and engage newsletter audiences in Columbia and Myrtle Beach, working at the intersection of content, audience development, and digital subscriptions. This position is part of a Knight Foundation-funded initiative to expand our digital reach and subscriber base in two key South Carolina markets.
Reporting to the Acquisition and Email Strategy Manager, this role blends strategic thinking with hands-on execution. You’ll collaborate with newsroom and marketing teams, represent The Post and Courier at events, and develop campaigns that convert readers into loyal subscribers. This role requires someone energized by collaboration, public interaction, and data-driven decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own strategy and execution for newsletters serving Columbia and Myrtle Beach.
- Grow newsletter audiences through opt-in events, contests, and targeted lead generation.
- Collaborate with newsroom staff to guide tone, cadence, and content that drives conversion.
- Launch and manage newsletters backed by performance insights and audience behavior.
- Identify and promote local stories with broader, statewide appeal.
- Track key performance metrics and optimize content and marketing strategy accordingly.
- Ensure newsletters meet editorial, design, and advertising standards.
- Maintain healthy newsletter lists through regular list hygiene and engagement analysis.
- Refine subscriber journeys to deepen engagement and nurture free readers toward digital subscription.
- Coordinate with the marketing team to develop and maintain a newsletter promotional calendar.
- Lead acquisition campaigns for paid newsletter subscriptions
- Contribute to the creation and segmentation of marketing emails that support subscription goals.
- Represent The Post and Courier at local events to grow visibility and email opt-ins.
