Job Summary
The Director of Marketing must be a dynamic, strategic, and creative individual. This transformative leader will shape and tell the story of a university that is redefining what it means to be a small, comprehensive liberal arts institution in the 21st century. Reporting directly to the Vice President of University Advancement, the Director will lead all aspects of Linfield’s brand and marketing strategy—elevating the university’s visibility, growing its reputation locally, nationally, and globally, and amplifying its extraordinary mission, people, and achievements. In addition, this leader will be keenly attuned to marketing to prospective college students to enhance enrollment. The position requires someone who is an exceptional communicator, strategic thinker, and collaborative teammate with a demonstrated ability to inspire, innovate, and implement integrated marketing campaigns across a range of platforms and audiences.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Work closely and collaboratively with the Vice President for Advancement, the President, the Vice President of Enrollment, and the President’s Cabinet , academic departments, and other administrative offices across the university, to develop and implement an integrated, proactive, comprehensive marketing strategy and plan that enhances the brand, influence, and reputation of Linfield while simultaneously driving interest and enrollment efforts at the University.
- Collaborate closely with the Enrollment division in carrying out the needs and requirements for recruitment in accordance with the recruitment cycle of the institution.
- Work with the Academic Affairs and Enrollment divisions to identify and implement the most effective marketing strategy for growing enrollment at the university.
- Establish strong, sustained marketing partnerships and lead annual marketing plan development efforts with key campus leaders.
- Manage all university-wide marketing activities, which will ensure a cost-effective strategy to reach prospective students, donors, and other targeted constituencies.
- In coordination with the VP for University Advancement and Director of Communications, oversee media relations, especially through the lens of earned media that helps raise the visibility and enhance the reputation of the institution.
- Study and keep apprised of trends in higher education and capitalize on opportunities for Linfield to be featured in ways that support the mission and strategic goals. This includes creating any niche media strategies (e.g., Wine Studies) with targeted outreach plans.
- Work with the Director of Communications to define and implement external communication strategies through strategic, effective, and enhanced relationships with TV, radio, and print media within and outside of the Mid-Willamette Valley region and nationally.
- Promote the achievements of faculty, students, staff, and campus leaders to enhance the institutional reputation of the University at the regional, state, and national level.
- Utilize appropriate metrics and analytics to keep the college apprised of national marketing trends that may have an impact on the University, and report regularly on the market position of Linfield in relation to competing institutions of higher education in the region, the state, and the nation.
- In partnership with the Director of Communications and the rest of the marketing and communications team—mixed media specialist, social media specialist, director of website communications, and director of publications/graphic design—to coordinate digital outreach efforts and enhancements to the Linfield website, which will have a positive impact on the university’s marketing and communication initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned by the Vice President for University Advancement.

Qualifications
- Required: relevant bachelor’s degree in marketing (or related field) and 4–5 years of progressively responsible marketing experience.
- Preferred but not required: relevant master’s degree and experience in marketing in the education field.
- Required: proven record launching, positioning, and invigorating brands and entities with the ability to translate institutional and target insight into a brand position.
- Required: demonstrated knowledge of digital and social media marketing and experience creating integrated digital experiences for constituencies.
- Active driver’s license.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently: sit, perform desk-based computer tasks; use fine manipulation and grasp; use a telephone; write by hand; sort and file paperwork.
- As necessary: stand and walk; twist; lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
- Frequently: ability to attend events and activities on or off campus.
- Frequently: ability to interact and communicate with members of the University and others as necessary.
- As necessary: ability to work long, irregular, or flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, nights, weekends, and/or holidays as necessitated by projects, situations, or matters (in addition to regular work during University’s business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.).
- As necessary: ability to travel by car or air.
Working Conditions
- Hours of employment: will require working occasional irregular, and/or longer hours, including early mornings, evenings, nights, weekends, and/or holidays, when necessitated by special projects or events.
- Work-related stress: there will be stress from work-related situations such as those involving challenging, important, urgent, time-sensitive, or multiple matters.
- Travel: may need to travel by car or air on occasion.
