Description

The Department of Media and Strategic Communication at Iona University is seeking dynamic adjunct professors to teach classes in the department for Fall 2025.

While other openings could arise, we are mainly looking for those who could teach one of these two classes:

 

Media Writing (MSC 240)

This foundational course required of all MSC majors is designed to develop students’ skills in grammar, punctuation, AP style, and writing techniques across media contexts such as journalism, public relations, and strategic communication.

Course Schedule:

  • In-person class
  • Meets two evenings per week during the Fall 2025 semester

Responsibilities:

  • Teach and manage one section of MSC 240: Media Writing
  • Deliver engaging lessons that help students grasp essential, but sometimes dry, material such as grammar and AP style
  • Provide feedback on assignments and quizzes with an emphasis on professional writing standards
  • Foster a supportive and interactive classroom environment
  • Maintain regular communication with students and the department
  • Submit grades and assessments in accordance with university policy

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher, preferably in journalism, communication, media studies, English, or a related field
  • Previous teaching experience at the college level is preferred but not required
  • Previous experience working in a media field is preferred but not required
  • Familiarity with AP style and professional writing formats
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to engage and inspire students

Writing and Storytelling for Public Relations (MSC 370)

 

This required PR course focuses on professional writing and narrative techniques used in public relations across traditional and digital platforms, including press releases, media kits, and social media content.

Course Schedule:

  • In-person class
  • Meets one evening per week during the Fall 2025 semester

Responsibilities:

  • Teach one section of MSC 370: Writing and Storytelling for Public Relations
  • Develop engaging lessons that introduce students to core PR writing formats and strategic storytelling techniques
  • Provide timely feedback on writing assignments and help students refine their professional voice
  • Integrate real-world case studies, examples, and industry practices into the course
  • Encourage student creativity and strategic thinking in PR writing
  • Maintain regular communication with students and departmental faculty
  • Submit grades and assessments per university deadlines

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in public relations, communication, media studies, or a closely related field
  • Professional experience working in public relations, corporate communications, or strategic media is preferred
  • Familiarity with press release formats, media outreach, and social media content strategy
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience teaching at the university level is preferred but not required
