  • Classification: Full time for 2025-2026 school year
  • Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., plus scheduled events with required attendance.

Overview

The Director of Fine Arts oversees and manages all aspects of the fine arts department: coordinates art events, performances, and educational programs. The Director of Fine Arts provides leadership and strategic direction for the arts curriculum, faculty, and facilities while fostering a dynamic and creative environment for students, staff, and the community.

Responsibilities

  • Teaches a course load to be determined by the Principal; additional duties may include a section of study hall, substitute coverage, and/or student event supervision.
  • Serves as an advisor for approximately 8-10 students.
  • Plans, prepares, and delivers lessons and instructional materials that facilitate active learning.
  • Directs the development, evaluation, revision and alignment of fine arts curriculum in instrumental music, vocal music, visual art, dance and theater.
  • Creates, organizes, and coordinates the development of new and/or innovative fine arts programs.
  • Works with all fine arts faculty and program directors on educational and administrative procedural needs of their programs.
  • Develops and maintains an inventory of all fine arts equipment.
  • Assists in making travel arrangements for all fine arts activities as required in conjunction with the transportation coordinator.
  • Arranges for staff professional development, workshops, clinics, and department meetings designed to improve instruction and quality of programs.
  • Facilitates strong parent relationships in support of fine arts program.
  • Serves on Principal’s team.
  • Attends all required meetings and conventions (TAPPS).
  • Oversees and evaluates fine arts staff.
  • Coordinates End of Year Awards Celebration.
  • Ensures administrative supervision for all Fine Arts events, coordinates with Dean of Student Life and other administrators.
  • Recruits, presents, and recommends qualified Fine Arts faculty for all open and new positions to Principal.
  • Prepares, submits, and administers a Fine Arts school budget annually in conjunction with the principal and Director of Finance.
  • Reviews Fine Arts program for short and long-term needs and development.
  • Works closely with the Advancement Department to maintain relationships with donors to raise funds for SPX Fine Arts.
  • Serves as Veritas Theatre Director; oversees and plans theatre productions during all phases, from casting calls to performances.
  • Assists with coordinating special performances and presentations for recruitment.
  • Maintains the equipment and physical structures in the auditorium for safety and efficiency in conjunction with the facilities manager.
  • Manages auditorium use for school-wide events, rehearsals, and rentals in conjunction with facilities department.
  • Manages sound/technical needs across campus for Fine Arts and non-Fine Arts events.
  • Serves as a Christian role model in speech and action, supports and follows St. Pius X High School mission, philosophy, goals, and policies.
  • Performs other duties as deemed necessary by school leadership.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • Commitment to embrace the Catholic Mission and Dominican Charism at St. Pius X High School.
  • Completion of Safe Haven environment training.
  • Bachelor’s in fine arts, arts administration or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience of at least five years in arts administration, academic leadership or program development.
  • Strong background in fine arts education with expertise in at least one specific discipline such as visual arts, theater, music or dance.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including students, faculty, staff and community stakeholders.
  • Disposition to foster an inclusive and innovative learning environment.
  • Proficient in budget management and resource allocation.
  • Holds a strong network in the fine arts community with ability to build external relationships.
  • Highly organized and reliable with demonstrated success working in a quick-paced, dynamic environment with many responsibilities, ability to act efficiently on last-minute projects.
