School nurtures students’ growth and character, while fostering the development of each child’s personal excellence in academics, athletics, and the arts.
Summary
The director of development is a full-time, 12-month position. The director of development reports to the head of school and will partner with
members of the senior leadership team and the board of trustees to oversee all development operations. The director of development is responsible
for annual giving, campaign and major gifts programs, department budget management, team supervision, and constituent engagement.
Responsibilities
Leadership
● Serve as an active and collaborative member of the administrative leadership team to maintain and enhance a positive, mission-driven, and
student-centered school culture.
● Work closely with the head of school to develop an overall strategy for the development office, including developing cascading goals, a
fundraising strategy, and a communication plan, following through to achieve goals and establish accountability for the development team
in all fundraising efforts.
● Manage departmental budget in collaboration with the advancement team.
● Develop and maintain a highly collaborative working relationship with members of the advancement team, donors, and volunteers.
● Manage campaign direction and oversight, including communication of campaign vision and progress with the board of trustees, internal
communication, championing a case for support, managing the head of school’s portfolio, and managing major gifts solicitations.
● Guide team members in managing a target portfolio of stakeholders.
● Develop and initiate strategies for building and enhancing annual giving, leadership gifts, stewardship, and strategic planning for future
efforts, including multi-year gifts, campaign giving, and planned giving.
● Review systems, practices, and results of all fundraising efforts in conjunction with development team members.
● Oversee the management of data systems and utilize data effectively to inform strategic decision-making.
Frontline Fundraising
● Manage a portfolio of major gift prospects.
● Manage the donor cycle.
● Oversee the development of a moves management system.
● Establish and lead prospect management meetings.
● Cultivate and solicit donors.
● Manage team metrics regarding donor giving.
● Report on all fundraising successes to leadership.

Qualifications

Skills

  • Outstanding team building and management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, working effectively and independently as part of a collaborative team.
  • Effective time management, budget management, and project management skills.
  • Highly developed technical skills, including proven experience with data system management (Boomerang preferred), Google Apps, and presentation software.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a broad range of internal and external constituents, including employees, students, alumni, parents, and friends of the School.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve problems creatively, handle confidential information responsibly, and navigate sensitive situations with integrity.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience in leadership, management, and advancement in independent schools or the nonprofit sector.
