The ideal candidate will foster a joyful, community based classroom where multilingual learners (MLs) in the elementary grades feel valued and empowered to develop their English skills in the four language domains: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. As an ELD teacher, you will engage in a combination of push-in and pull-out sessions with MLs that focus on ELD skills that are tailored to group and individual needs. Additionally, you will implement a variety of ELD strategies and social interactive opportunities to make language

  • Be passionate about creating an inclusive and supportive environment for newcomers and their families
  • Serve as a resource on ELD-related matters for teachers, school administrators, instructional personnel, parents and others.  
  • Assist in the development of curriculum and collaborate with mainstream teachers to ensure inclusion of core curriculum subject matter.
  • Scaffold and adapt assignments from core subject areas to meet the needs of individual students at various English proficiency levels
  • Use appropriate ELD strategies (i.e. SIOP) to make language acquisition accessible, engaging and rigorous
  • Administer WIDA placement exam and regularly assess students on language growth in the four domains
  • Use data from assessments to inform instruction and reteach skills when needed
  • Provide consistent feedback on assignments and communicate learning targets and strengths to both parents and students
  • Foster strong relationships with families through consistent communication; secure translators for conferences, presentations and written communication
  • Practice strong classroom management skills that foster inclusion, responsibility and student success
  • Collaborate and attend weekly meetings with colleagues, special education teachers, and support staff to deliver grade-level content and targeted interventions for all students
  • Participate in and contribute to school-wide initiatives and professional development
  • Support school operations by assisting with daily duties and ensuring a smooth, safe, and organized learning environment

  • Considerable knowledge of the regulations and policies related to English as a Second Language and of the concepts, principles and methodologies of ELD instruction.  
  • Working knowledge of current curriculum development, program implementation, learning theory and recent research in ELD.  
  • Demonstrated ability of culturally responsive teaching and working with students at various English proficiency levels
  • Working skill in the use of technology to deliver and assess instruction.  
  • Demonstrated ability to develop instructional goals to design and deliver instruction and to assess students' learning.  
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, schedule and monitor work assignments; to train and advise teaching staff regarding MLs; to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated ability in decision making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships and planning

Requirements

  • Completed a state-approved teacher preparation program in English as a Second Language (ESL) or Career Switcher Program in ESL
  • Completed a bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution; Master’s in education preferred

Physical Demands/Work Environment

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear.
  • The employee may occasionally be required to bend, stoop or kneel.


 

Location and Schedule:  Expected work hours are 7:30am-4pm, M-F. This job does have remote work flexibility. However, all employees must be based in Denver, CO.
