Job Summary:
As a CNC Lathe Machinist, you will be responsible for setting up and operating computer numerical control (CNC) lathe machines to produce high-quality precision parts. You will ensure equipment runs smoothly, meet strict quality standards, and actively contribute to process improvements.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Machine Operation & Setup
- Set up and operate CNC lathe machines.
- Perform tool changes, offsets, and adjustments based on blueprints and specifications.
- Verify settings through measurements and first-run checks.
Quality Assurance
- Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T.
- Use measurement tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators) to inspect parts.
- Ensure parts meet dimensional tolerances and customer specifications.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on machines.
- Identify and troubleshoot mechanical or control issues.
- Replace worn tools and make necessary corrections to programs or setups.
Documentation & Communication
- Maintain production and quality logs.
- Report work order status and issues to the supervisor or team lead.
- Participate in training and stay updated on modern technologies and techniques.
- Explore opportunities to increase productivity in work area.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong understanding of CNC machining principles and lathe operation.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and GD&T.
- Basic knowledge of math, geometry, and trigonometry.
- Proactive and safety-conscious mindset.
- Willingness to learn and grow within Sun Hydraulics.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma/GED required.
- Technical/vocational training in machining preferred.
- Experience using CNC Lathe machines preferred.
- Experience with Fanuc controls is a plus.
- Experience with Citizen, Swiss, Miyano, or Mazak lathes is highly valued.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally.
- Manual dexterity and focus for working with precision tools.
