Job Summary:

The Product Design Engineer will work to design, develop, and maintain screw-in hydraulic cartridge valves. The candidate will be the technical owner of various product lines based on technical expertise. The Design Engineer is challenged with being a key contributor to the continuous improvement of our cartridge valve technology product portfolio, both locally and globally.

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all aspects of given product line(s) by developing and maintaining requirements of the design
  • Submit and carry out Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) effective and efficiently
  • Coordinate with manufacturing engineering and operations teams for:
    • Design for Manufacturing, Cost, Assembly
    • First Pass Yield (FPY) Improvements
  • Design custom cartridges for customer specific applications utilizing specialized software to create models and drawings of products
  • Work with customers, distributors, integrators, etc. to answer technical questions and specify appropriate cartridge utilization
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise on design related issues
  • Drive the project management of new applications from initial conception to final commissioning/in-field testing through to production release
  • Prepare and deliver presentations at reviews and meetings

 

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Hands-on capability to carry through the complete project from conception to final sign-off by the customer
  • Ability to understand complex mathematical relationships that underpin mechanical analysis
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprint documents
  • Ability to proficiently utilize CAD/3-D Modeling Software
  • Ability to coordinate and communicate tasks across a wide range of cross-functional teams
  • Extreme attention to detail

 

Education and Experience:

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics is highly preferred.
  • Experience in the use of simulation tools (e.g., FEA, CFD, 1-D, etc.)
  • Knowledge of screw-in cartridge, sub plate mounted and stackable mobile sectional valves, as well as a solid understanding of hydraulic components, circuits, and systems
  • Thorough understanding of materials, linear and nonlinear behavior of materials, fatigue, and corrosion
  • Understanding of GD&T standards and best practices
  • Understanding of 6 Sigma principles

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to lift to 35 pounds
