POSITION OVERVIEW


Westminster’s Advancement Team is looking for an intern to serve as a vital team member during the summer. The Advancement Intern will support Westminster’s Alumni Engagement, Annual Giving, Advancement Operations, and Donor Relations teams and assist with donor stewardship, alumni engagement and giving strategies, and data hygiene. Additionally, the Advancement Intern will receive an overview of and exposure to various functions within the Office for Institutional Advancement.

Supervisor: Assistant Director of Parent Engagement; Prospect Management & Data Analyst

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Position Status: Part-time, Hourly, Non-Exempt, Seasonal position

Hours of Work:  Standard work week - Monday through Friday - 20 hours per week


 

REQUIREMENTS


  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with various constituents.
  • Self-starter who can work independently and take initiative to meet deadlines in a time-sensitive and fluid environment with attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member.
  • Very strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Google Drive software competencies.
  • Interest in learning more about the culture of philanthropy surrounding the Westminster student experience and the School’s alumni engagement and fundraising activities.
  • Commitment to the mission of Westminster and willingness to serve as an ambassador for the School both internally and externally.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Works closely with the Annual Giving team to achieve Westminster Fund dollar and participation goals. Receives training on engaging with alumni and how to seek and secure continued annual fund support. Assists with fiscal year-end pledge fulfillment strategies, particularly with college-aged alumni. Partners with team members on a project to advance young alumni giving.
  • Supports Donor Relations goals through personal outreach. Partners closely with the Donor Relations team through a named spaces audit and envisions a unique donor stewardship project like Say Thanks Day.  
  • Receives a comprehensive overview of the goals and priorities of the Advancement Operations team. Helps improve data management and hygiene. Ensures data accuracy for recent graduates by inputting student activities, college choices, and preferred contact information into alumni records.  
  • Works with the Alumni Engagement team to strengthen alumni connections through strategic programs and special events. Partners with team leaders on researching possible event venues and vendors. Benchmarks alumni programs of interest at peer and aspirant institutions. May assist with researching and identifying notable alumni and parents for future engagement.  
  • Supports other special projects of the Office for Institutional Advancement.
  • Any other duties as assigned.
     

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to remain in a stationary position for long periods; occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.; operate a computer and other office productivity machinery; traverse over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; use hands to handle and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. 

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and may frequently walk on slippery or uneven surfaces.  The noise level in the work environment is often loud.

Westminster is a drug-free, smoke/vape-free campus.


 

TRAVEL


Travel is primarily local during the regular business day. Overnight and out-of-area travel may also be required and is associated mainly with planned events, conferences, and professional development opportunities.

Driving a Westminster vehicle may be required for this position.
