POSITION OVERVIEW


The Baseball Head of Program at Westminster Schools in Atlanta, GA is responsible for leading and managing the baseball program at all levels, including middle school, JV, and varsity. This individual serves as the Head Coach of the varsity baseball program. This position requires a strong background in baseball coaching, leadership skills, and a passion for developing student-athletes both on and off the field. The Head of Program will oversee all aspects of the baseball program, including player development, team management, program administration, and intentional development of the program's pipeline of talent.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Assistant Baseball Coaches (Middle School - Varsity)

Position Status: This is a salaried, exempt, full-time, regular, 10-month position.

Hours of Work: Standard work week. Evening and weekend work is required.

 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS


  • Current active or currently pursuing employment as a Westminster Faculty or Staff Member
  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred;
  • Previous coaching experience;
  • Working knowledge of computer and statistical programs;
  • Strong writing, organizational, administrative, and communication skills;
  • Ability to work effectively with students, staff, faculty, and community members;
  • Knowledge of GHSA rules and regulations;
  • CPR and First Aid Certified - preferred.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Program Development and Management


  • Designs and leads a comprehensive baseball program across all levels (middle school, JV, and varsity), ensuring alignment with the School’s mission, values, and athletic philosophy
  • Establishes a unified program identity, fostering clear communication, program alignment, and strategic roster management
  • Provides leadership, mentorship, and support to coaches at all levels, cultivating a cohesive and collaborative coaching staff; Actively helps attract and retain talented coaches to the School and program
  • Plans and executes effective, developmentally appropriate practices that emphasize individual skill development, team strategy, and collaboration at every tier
  • Oversees player evaluation and team selection through structured tryouts and ongoing assessment processes, ensuring thoughtful and level-appropriate placements
  • Prioritizes holistic player development, including individualized growth plans for each athlete
  • Demonstrates a clear, comprehensive understanding of all phases of the game—offense, defense, pitching, and baserunning—and integrates these into practice and game strategy
  • Builds a positive, inclusive team culture that promotes character, sportsmanship, respect, and personal growth across all levels
  • Maintains strong, consistent communication and relationships with student-athletes, families, and the broader School community; Clearly articulates expectations, standards, and values
  • Develops and manages team schedules—including games, practices, tournaments, and events—across all program levels
  • Ensures practices are intentional, structured, and aligned with team goals and developmental benchmarks
  • Designs and implements optional offseason programming focused on strength training, arm care, and individual development
  • Leads and organizes youth clinics, summer camps, and development opportunities to grow the program’s future talent pipeline and community engagement
  • Manages program operations within the parameters of an approved budget
  • Performs other duties as assigned

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITY:  Compliance with GHSA Rules and Regulations


  • Ensures full compliance with all Georgia High School Association (GHSA) rules and regulations across the baseball program
  • Stays informed of changes to GHSA policies and communicates relevant updates to coaches, student-athletes, and families
  • Maintains accurate and timely documentation required by GHSA, including eligibility, rosters, and scheduling records
  • Coordinates with the athletic department to ensure timely submission of all required GHSA paperwork and forms
  • Attends GHSA meetings, training sessions, and workshops to remain current and maintain program compliance
  • Educates student-athletes, coaches, and families on GHSA guidelines, promoting a culture of integrity, fairness, and sportsmanship

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITY:  Support for Student-Athletes


  • Develops a leadership framework that gives student-athletes opportunities to grow as leaders within the program
  • Guides student-athletes pursuing college or professional baseball, offering personalized support and mentorship throughout their journey
  • Assists with the college recruitment process, including exposure to showcases, camps, and recruitment timelines
  • Builds relationships with college coaches and scouts to promote student-athletes and facilitate recruitment opportunities
  • Leverages institutional resources—including Performance Psychology, Sports Medicine, Strength & Conditioning, Data & Analytics—to support player and team development
  • Connects student-athletes with external development opportunities such as club teams, camps, and specialized training
  • Maintains strong, strategic relationships with club and college coaches to advocate for student-athletes and expand their opportunities
  • Remains knowledgeable about NCAA, NAIA, and other relevant governing body rules concerning recruitment and eligibility

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:  Professional Development and Coaching Excellence


  • Attends coaching clinics, conferences, and national conventions with staff to stay current on best practices and industry standards
  • Shares insights and takeaways from professional development experiences to strengthen team and program growth
  • Collaborates with staff to integrate innovative coaching methods and evidence-based strategies into the program
  • Encourages ongoing learning and professional growth for all coaches, supporting attendance at workshops and certification programs
  • Actively identifies and recruits assistant coaches with subject matter expertise to elevate the program
  • Provides consistent mentorship and feedback to assistant coaches, fostering their development and engagement
  • Builds a supportive, team-oriented coaching culture rooted in open communication, shared goals, and continuous improvement

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT


While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to become CPR and First Aid Certified.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee will be exposed to outside weather conditions and may frequently walk on slippery or uneven surfaces. The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.

 

TRAVEL


Travel is primarily local during the regular business day. Overnight and out-of-area travel will be required.
