POSITION OVERVIEW


The Maintenance Technician at The Westminster Schools is a key contributor to the upkeep and operational integrity of the School’s facilities. This full-time, year-round position is responsible for performing a wide variety of maintenance tasks across campus buildings and grounds. These include general repair work, preventative maintenance, basic plumbing and electrical repairs, painting, and inspections, using a range of hand and power tools to ensure that school spaces are functional, safe, and well-maintained.

Reporting to the Maintenance Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician works both independently and as part of a team, responding to daily work orders and assisting with special projects as needed. The role requires flexibility, initiative, and a customer-service mindset, often involving evening and weekend work during school events or periods of high demand. Through their work, the Maintenance Technician supports the School’s mission and provides an environment where students and faculty can thrive in pursuit of academic and personal excellence.

Position Status:  Hourly, Non-exempt, Full-time,12-month position

Hours of Work: This is a full-time, year-round position. Standard work week with non-traditional work hours expectations.  Evening and weekend work will be required during periods of heavy workload, campus special events, or facilities emergencies. 

 

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS


The requirements below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for a successful candidate.

  • GED or High School Diploma
  • 3-5 years of experience as a maintenance technician in a commercial setting
  • Knowledge of the practices, procedures, and safety precautions of the electrical trade
  • A general set of hand tools is expected to be provided by the employee. Westminster will provide specialized tools
  • Knowledge of low and high voltage electrical systems distribution
  • Knowledge and experience with multiple maintenance trades and practices
  • Valid GA Driver's License and a Westminster acceptable driving record
  • Customer-service oriented
  • Interact and communicate effectively and professionally with a broad constituency
  • A growth mindset seeking ways to foster self-development and growth
  • Identify and solve problems in a timely and resourceful manner
  • Flexible with the willingness to use initiative and handle extra duties as needed; carry out responsibilities with little or no supervision
  • Interpret a variety of documents/instructions, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and blueprints, furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Basic communication skills and working knowledge of the English language; ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, procedure manuals, short correspondence, and memos

  • Possesses intermediate computer skills and can use an iPad for completing work orders, checking emails, and conducting online product/equipment research

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Performs a variety of general maintenance tasks to upkeep buildings and grounds
  • Uses a variety of hand and power tools to complete maintenance, repair, and installation tasks
  • Utilizes the school’s work order system to receive notice of tasks, log completion of tasks, and enter any helpful comments concerning the work
  • Replaces fuses, ballasts, light bulbs, and switches
  • Performs preventative maintenance tasks on building equipment and systems
  • Performs general plumbing and electrical repairs
  • Repairs, preps, and paints walls and other surfaces as needed
  • Partners with the Maintenance Supervisor to coordinate and inspect the work of General Maintenance contractors
  • Maintains tools and equipment in safe and sound working order
  • Conducts building walk-through regularly to verify proper functionality and notes/corrects any deficiencies as they relate to safety, building systems, and equipment
  • Conducts regular inspections of building systems and equipment; reports and/or resolves any issues/deficiencies
  • Complies with all safety practices, procedures, and rules
  • Ensures workshop area is cleaned and organized daily
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT


While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The ability to become certified in CPR, AED, and First Aid is required.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee may occasionally be exposed to outside weather conditions and frequently walk on slippery or uneven surfaces.  The noise level in the work environment is often loud.

Westminster is a drug-free, smoke/vape-free campus.


 

TRAVEL


Travel is primarily local during the regular business day.  Overnight and out-of-area travel may also be required, primarily associated with planned events, conferences, and professional development opportunities.

Driving a Westminster vehicle may be required for this position.
