Reports to: Devonshire Cultural Center Manager/Producer with creative supervision by the Artistic Director of the production.           Supervises: Cast members and any volunteers assisting with dance production
Basic Function: This position is currently set to take part in two musicals per year with one to be rehearsed/performed in late summer - mid Fall and the other to occur early spring to early summer. The Choreographer will research and plan all dance numbers needed for each production. The person filling this position will develop the production philosophy/focus set in cooperation with the artistic director, producer and the rest of the production team. The Choreographer will utilize all available resources of the District and its staff to insure a smooth and effective delivery of the production and will carry out the established policies of the Skokie Park District. This person shall adhere to and actively enforces safety procedures of the District and its overall management program. The Choreographer shall work closely and cooperatively with other members of the District to insure a coordinated community – wide program format.Â
Essential Duties:Â
- Plans, directs, and implements dance and movement in the the production to carry out a creative theme set in cooperation with the artistic director, musical director, producer and the rest of the production team. Â Responsible for implementing all logistical tasks needed for dance performance within the production.
- Assists in scheduling of choreographic rehearsals within the production
- Assists in the oversight of casting calls, auditions and call-backs
- Develops a detailed curriculum for rehearsals prior to the start of said rehearsals and submitted to producer or artistic director if requested.
- Attends production meetings.
- Recommends and /or purchases supplies and equipment needed to support the dance portion of the production.Â
- Choreographer should adhere to the technical schedule with the contract lighting, sound and set technicians.
- The Choreographer will work closely and cooperatively with other members of the District to ensure a coordinated community and recreation based program format.
- Maintains accurate records and reports
Other Duties: Ability to coordinate all aspects of the position in an organized, efficient way. Ability to evaluate and direct cast. Ability to establish positive and professional, interpersonal relationships with cast, customers, and business associates. Ability to plan and implement programs, analyze problems, handle community and production pressures. Ability to write, speak and develop reports clearly. Ability to follow proper maintenance practices for all related equipment. Adhere to and actively enforce safety responsibilities outlined in the District’s Safety Manual.
** This job falls in paygrade PT6. The target hiring range for this position is $18.00 - $ 21 depending on qualifications.
