Description

The Devonshire Cultural Center within the Skokie Park District is seeking a passionate and skilled Art Instructor to teach our Youth Drawing & Painting and Creating with Clay classes for children ages 6–12. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic art educator who inspires creativity, teaches foundational art techniques, and fosters confidence in young artists.

Responsibilities

· Teach two 2-hour art classes on Saturdays: Youth Drawing & Painting and Creating with Clay (typically 8-week sessions each season).

· Create your own engaging, age-appropriate curriculum of projects that build skills, creativity, and knowledge of art history.

· Manage classroom setup and cleanup; maintain a welcoming and organized studio environment.

· Work with the program supervisor to order and manage supplies in a timely manner.

· Operate the kiln safely and knowledgeably for ceramics classes.

· Communicate regularly with families in person and occasionally by phone or email regarding student progress and class updates.

· Collaborate with the supervisor on enrollment, new class ideas, and scheduling—committing to class sessions approximately six months in advance. Respond to emails within 24 business hours.

· Build rapport with families and encourage student attendance throughout the year! Help market your classes to the Chicago land community.

· Collaborate with other team members as needed.

· Attend trainings and maintain certifications for safety and employment.

· Help with Cultural Center special events.

Schedule:

Saturdays 12:30–6:00 PM (starting mid-January) + possible weeknight class

Start Date: Mid-January 2026 with some training in December


* This job fall in paygrade PT8. The target hiring range for this position is beginning at $23.18 depending on qualifications.

Qualifications

Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, or at least 2 years of experience teaching art to children ages 6–12

· Proficiency in a variety of media and techniques, including:

  •       Watercolor, tempera, and acrylic painting
  •       Drawing with charcoal, colored pencils, markers, oil and chalk pastels
  •       Clay, ceramic techniques (hand-building and wheel), glazes, and kiln operation

· Strong classroom management and youth engagement skills

· Excellent communication and organizational abilities

· Reliable, mature, and creative educator with a passion for fostering artistic growth
