Job Summary:
The Home Care Intake Specialist is the first point of contact for patients and plays a key role in ensuring a smooth and welcoming experience. This position is responsible for gathering patient information, verifying insurance and patient demographics, and preparing the necessary documentation for clinical staff. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and has strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contact patients via telephone in a professional and courteous manner
- Collect and verify patient demographics and insurance information
- Obtain necessary authorizations, referrals, and consents
- Accurately enter patient information into the electronic medical record (EMR) system
- Documenting patient interactions and communication
- Manage appointment scheduling/provider routes
- Answer incoming calls, respond to inquiries, and redirect calls appropriately
- Maintain confidentiality of patient records in compliance with HIPAA
- Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure smooth patient flow and accurate handoffs
- Perform administrative duties as needed (scanning, faxing, filing, etc.)
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Medical office or healthcare customer service experience preferred
- Familiarity with EMR systems (DocNow) a plus
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance processes is a plus
- Bilingual (Spanish)
