Description

Job Summary: 

The Maintenance Technician assists in the maintenance and repair of Messiah Lifeways buildings and equipment. They must have working knowledge with commercial kitchen equipment, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, preventive maintenance and daily maintenance requests. The Maintenance Technician will ensure that maintenance operations are in compliance with applicable codes, standards and regulations. 

 

Job Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Carry out all requests as assigned. These requests may include, but are not limited to, any of the following: 
  •  Maintain, repair or trouble-shoot all kitchen equipment, air handlers, icemakers,  appliances, electrical systems, plumbing systems and fixtures, door/window/and associated hardware repair. 
  • Must have knowledge and ability to apply general mechanical repair and maintenance practices and home repair. 
  • Work with and install plumbing lines, PVC , PEX, CPVC, and copper 
  • Know how to use an electrical meter for volts, amp and ohm, etc. to troubleshoot electrical issues and have ability to replace general electrical items such as switches, receptacles, and light ballasts 
  • Must be able to do drywall patching/repair and painting. 
  • Must be able to work from heights, on ladders, lifts, and roofs. 
  • May need to assist with resident furniture moves 
  • On-Call: Is responsible to be part of the Emergency-on-Call rotation schedule with on-call coverage for 24-hours of the total campus (including main building, cottages and apartment buildings). This involves maintenance related issues as well. The Facilities Manager will determine the On Call schedule including weekends or holidays. 
  • Able and willing to alter work schedule to accommodate special needs such as snow removal and preventive maintenance projects and after hour emergencies. 
  • Follow emergency procedures and responds rapidly and appropriately to emergencies, ensuring the safety of residents, staff, and vendors 
  • Follow proper procedures and promote safe work practices in order to maintain a safe working environment
  • Work cooperatively and productively with others, including residents, families, other employees, and vendors 
  • Provides assistance to other Campus Services departments as needed. 
  • Willingness to work under direction and supervision 
  • Confidentiality regarding resident information must be maintained in strict confidence, as well as other information pertaining to the business of Messiah Lifeways 
  • It is the responsibility of all Messiah Lifeways employees to be mindful of safety when performing duties. This is to include performing tasks in a safe manner, as well as being mindful of potential safety issues when traveling throughout the campus. If any unsafe conditions are discovered, this shall be reported to the Campus Services Department immediately, and actions shall be taken to reduce the possibility of injury until a permanent solution can be applied 
  • Willingness to operate and maintain Wellness Center Pool and Indoor Hot Tub (must be willing to complete and pass Certified Pool Operators course and Pesticide Category 24 (Pools). Costs would be covered by Messiah Lifeways. 
  • Additional duties and tasks as assigned 

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Must have a working knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, preventive maintenance, and daily maintenance requests.

  • Must possess basic computer skills. This role interacts with email and the work order management system frequently. 
  • Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills 

Education/Experience: 

  • Minimum of a High School diploma or GED equivalent required 
  • Minimum of 2 years maintenance trade oriented or mechanical experience preferred
  • Trade oriented or mechanical special certifications/education/training or willingness to obtain required 
  • Valid driver’s license required
