Cincinnati Nature Center is seeking applicants to fill a part-time Nature Shop Level 2 Associate position at our Rowe Woods location in Milford, OH.  This role is ideal for someone with some retail experience who is seeking a part-time role.

The Nature Shop is our retail shop which helps to deepen each customer’s connection to nature and inspire conservation.  Through a positive and welcoming approach, the Nature Shop team helps to extend and reinforce each customer’s experience and learning at the Nature Center.  The Nature Shop is located within the Rowe Visitor Center.

The Nature Shop is open nearly every day of the year from 10am – 5pm.  This part-time position will work 16 - 24 hours /week, and possibly more hours during the Holiday season.  Weekend and evening shifts are likely for special events during the year.

POSITION SUMMARY

With specific direction from the Shop Manager, this senior associate position is primarily focused on providing a superior retail experience to all customers and visitors in the Nature Shop.  Under direction from the Nature Shop Manager, this person will work in a collaborative manner to execute all activities with the highest standards for customer service and in keeping with Nature Center Mission, Values, and Principles.

Direct reports:  Provide specific direction to Nature Shop volunteers

KEY RESPONSBILITIES

Customer Service (85%)

  • Provide exceptional customer service to members and guests by greeting each person and assisting them appropriately
  • Know the merchandise provided by the Nature Shop; restock display shelves
  • Utilize point-of-sale (POS) system to process cash and credit card payments and to maintain accurate merchandise inventory; be proficient on irregular transaction types
  • Open and close POS register and prepare daily balancing sheets
  • Receive shipments of merchandise; log and display merchandise
  • Move and organize merchandise as needed between the storage room and Nature Shop displays
  • Keep shop tidy and neat
  • Work in the Nature Shop and occasionally in other locations at Rowe Woods
  • Assist with art shows by helping with set up and break down
  • Become familiar with Nature Center programming and events so can respond to questions from guests and promote Nature Center activities as appropriate.
  • Ensure the volunteers’ experience is meaningful and appreciated within the Nature Shop.
  • Support a positive experience for the Nature Center volunteers working in the Nature Shop and give direction as needed

 

Additional Responsibilities (15%): 

  • Support training and day-to-day oversight of new Shop staff and volunteers, and oversight of daily shop activities in the absence of the Shop Manager.
  • Support planning work schedules of the Shop staff months in advance
  • Support consignment activities, including receiving new items, accounting for consignment sales, and various reports for Accounting
  • Support maintenance of the Online Shop.
  • Support inventory management and analysis
  • Attend regularly scheduled shop training sessions and periodic team meetings; keep Shop Manager and team members informed of key info.
  • Other activities as assigned

REQUIRED  SKILLS AND ABILITIES

SKILLS

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including the use of Outlook
  • Use of copy machines, postage machines, telephone, and other general office equipment Willingness to learn other software as needed
  • Must maintain confidentiality of sensitive and confidential information
  • Collaborative working style utilizing strong organizational and customer service skills

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or Higher
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Point of Sale/cash register experience

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This position requires the following physical activities: pushing, pulling, climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is primarily performed on-site, indoors in an office environment and outdoors in the nature preserve. Occasional remote work acceptable.
  • Local travel may be required. Some travel to regional conferences may be required. When a Nature Center vehicle is not available, the use of personal vehicle (reimbursed at IRS recommended rate) may be needed for Cincinnati Nature Center business.

  • CPR & First Aid: Certification must be obtained and maintained throughout employment.
  • Professional Learning, Development, and Required Training:  Employees shall engage in ongoing professional learning and development as well as shall complete ongoing required training relevant to safety, certification, and best business practices.
  • Special Events: From time to time, employees shall be required to support special events which may fall outside of the normal work schedule including weekends/evenings.
