POSITION SUMMARY

With direction from the Associate Director of Conservation, the Equipment Maintenance Coordinator will provide support in the use, maintenance, and repair of all tools and equipment, including, but not limited to: heavy equipment such as tractors, skid steers, mowers, forestry shredders, wood chippers, and seed drills; small power equipment such as chainsaws and weed whips.  Execute all activities with the highest standards for safety, customer service, and in keeping with CNC Mission, Values, and Principles.

Direct reports:  Supervise volunteers and volunteer projects related to equipment and maintenance.

 

KEY RESPONSBILITIES (may vary seasonally depending on weather and departmental capacity)

EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE & SAFETY PROCEDURES– (75%) 

EQUIPMENT

  • Ensure all equipment is functional by ensuring regular PM schedules and necessary repairs following proper OSHA, EPA and all internal and external safety standards
  • Maintain updated and detailed maintenance & repair records for all conservation equipment
  • Collaborate with Facilities & Grounds Department with equipment maintenance.  Includes tractors, chainsaws, RTV’s, trucks, farm Implements, etc.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with hydraulic systems
  • Train staff and volunteers on proper equipment use and daily upkeep
  • Maintain updated and detailed maintenance and repair records for all C&S equipment
  • When necessary, assist Facilities & Grounds staff with the maintenance of tools and equipment managed by F&G
  • Coordination and supervision of ongoing volunteer groups and projects

SAFETY & REGULATORY PROCEDURES

  • Adhere to OSHA and other regulatory requirements, including chemical handling, storage, and disposal.
  • Familiarity with best practices in the disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace, including shared garage spaces.
  • MSD management for all Conservation chemicals and products.

HABITAT & WILDLIFE – (25%)

  • Support the Conservation department in all aspects of natural areas management and horticulture, including, but not limited to management of invasive species, grassland management, landscaping, tree plantings, off-site Restorative Landscapes projects, prescribed burns
  • Assist with all wildlife management activities on CNC Lands, including, but not limited to monitoring and maintenance of camera traps, determine locations, and maintain photos, and ODNR supported deer and goose management practices

Qualifications

REQUIRED  SKILLS AND ABILITIES

SKILLS

  • Mechanical skills working on tractors, RTVs, hydraulic systems, and other large and small engine equipment
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office including the use of Outlook
  • Willingness to learn other software as needed
  • Use of copy machines, postage machines, telephone, and other general office equipment
  • Collaborative working style utilizing strong organizational and customer service skills

  • Communicate effectively and professionally including oral, written, and listening methods
  • Manage time and multiple priorities to meet deadlines

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • An Associate or Bachelor's degree in agriculture, wildlife management, ecology, plant biology, horticulture or similar field OR experience working on a farm or similar field.
  • Tractor, Chainsaw, and other Heavy Equipment experience required
  • Knowledge of SW Ohio flora and fauna, including invasive species

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • This position requires the following physical activities: pushing, pulling, climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is primarily performed on-site, indoors in an office environment and outdoors in the nature preserve. Occasional remote work acceptable.
  • Local travel may be required. Some travel to regional conferences may be required. When a Nature Center vehicle is not available, the use of personal vehicle (reimbursed at IRS recommended rate) may be needed for Cincinnati Nature Center business.

  • CPR & First Aid: Certification must be obtained and maintained throughout employment.
  • Professional Learning, Development, and Required Training:  Employees shall engage in ongoing professional learning and development as well as shall complete ongoing required training relevant to safety, certification, and best business practices.
  • Special Events: From time to time, employees shall be required to support special events which may fall outside of the normal work schedule including weekends/evenings.
