Position Summary

Salem Academy is seeking a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Head Fencing Coach to lead our fencing program. The Head Coach will be responsible for organizing, developing, and supervising the fencing team, fostering student-athlete growth, and promoting the values of discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship. This individual will play a vital role in building a positive and competitive program that supports the mission and values of Salem Academy.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and conduct fencing practices and competitions.
  • Teach and develop fundamental and advanced fencing techniques.
  • Supervise and mentor student-athletes, encouraging academic and athletic success.
  • Ensure compliance with Salem Academy, state, and league policies.
  • Coordinate scheduling, travel, and equipment needs with the Athletics Department.
  • Maintain a safe environment for all participants and drive a 15-passenger van.
  • Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and character development in all aspects of the program.
  • Communicate regularly with student-athletes, families, and the Academy community

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Prior coaching or competitive fencing experience required.
  • Knowledge of fencing rules, strategies, and safety protocols.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to mentor and positively engage high school student-athletes.
  • CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

 

Physical Functions

While performing the responsibilities of the Head Fencing Coach the employee is required to sit for varying lengths of time; bend, reach, lift, push, and pull up to 30 pounds; occasionally stand, walk, and kneel and regularly ascend/descend stairs; use hands and fingers to handle or feel and manipulate keys on a keyboard; perform extended periods of work at a computer workstation, view a computer monitor; perceive sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction, and receive detailed information through oral communication; express and exchange ideas by means of spoken word; and work in an office setting.
