Chief Financial Officer

The Maine Community College System (MCCS) is looking for a full-time Chief Financial Officer position. This position oversees and enhances the financial integrity of the MCCS, which includes financial strategic planning, compliance of financial policies and procedures, capital plans, resource allocations, debt management, cash flow optimization, financial reporting, investment/endowment oversight, and financial information systems. The CFO serves as key advisor to the Board of Trustees, MCCS President, System managers, College Presidents, Foundation leaders, Governor's Office, Legislators and State agencies on financial and operational information.

The position is a level 10 Confidential position. The required minimum qualifications include a master’s degree in business or CPA with 5 to 10 years of relevant work experience. Experience working in higher education is strongly preferred.

The required knowledge, skills, and abilities include, but are not limited to, the following: 

  • Experience in a senior financial management role, including supervisory experience.
  • Ability to develop and implement creative financial management strategies.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, team management and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organizational skills.
  • Experience working with information technology.
  • Knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including sophisticated fund and grant accounting, compliance and reporting.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and problem-solving ability.
  • Knowledge of college and university fund accounting and experience working with public organizations.
