Summary:
The Cashier is responsible for providing excellent customer service while efficiently processing sales transactions at the register. This role ensures accurate handling of cash, credit, and other forms of payment while maintaining a clean and organized checkout area. The Cashier assists customers with inquiries, promotes store promotions, and ensures compliance with company policies and procedures. Additional responsibilities include stocking merchandise, assisting with inventory management, and maintaining a safe and welcoming store environment.
Essential Functions:
Customer Service:
- Greet customers warmly and assist with inquiries.
- Provide product information and promote store promotions.
- Handle customer concerns and escalate issues as needed.
Transaction Handling:
- Operate the cash register and point-of-sale system to process purchases, returns, and payments.
- Handle cash, checks, credit, and debit transactions accurately and efficiently.
- Accept and verify various payment methods, ensuring accuracy.
- Issue receipts, process refunds, and handle exchanges per company policy.
Checkout Area Maintenance:
- Keep the checkout area clean, organized, and stocked with necessary supplies.
- Return misplaced or unwanted items to their designated locations.
- Monitor inventory of front-end merchandise and replenish as needed
Operations Support:
- Assist with restocking shelves and maintaining product displays.
- Monitor inventory levels and inform management of shortages.
- Perform light cleaning tasks, including sweeping, dusting, and trash disposal.
- Ensure store aisles and entryways remain clear and accessible.
Communication and Reporting:
- Inform management of register discrepancies or technical issues.
- Report low-stock or out-of-stock items to the appropriate personnel.
- Report discrepancies, shortages, or customer issues promptly to the Shift Lead.
Safety and Compliance:
- Follow all store policies and cash handling procedures.
- Adhere to safety guidelines for theft prevention and emergency procedures.
- Comply with food handling and alcohol sales regulations where applicable.
Additional Duties:
- Perform other tasks assigned by the Shift Lead or management.
