Summary:
The Shift Lead is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the cash register area, ensuring efficient and accurate transaction processing, and providing leadership to the cashier team. This role involves supervising cashiers, managing customer service, handling complex transactions, and ensuring that store policies and procedures are followed. The Lead Cashier / Shift Supervisor is also responsible for coordinating tasks, assisting with training new cashiers, and ensuring the smooth operation of the front-end area during shifts.
Essential Functions:
Supervision and Leadership:
- Oversee store operations and staff during assigned shifts to ensure efficiency and compliance with company standards.
- Provide direction and support to team members, fostering a positive and collaborative work atmosphere.
- Train and mentor new cashiers, ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures.
Customer Service:
- Maintain high standards of customer service by addressing customer needs promptly and effectively.
- Resolve customer inquiries, complaints, and issues with professionalism and courtesy.
- Assist customers with product information and guide them through store promotions.
Operational Excellence:
- Operate the cash register and point-of-sale (POS) system to process sales, returns, and exchanges efficiently.
- Handle cash, credit, debit, and other payment types accurately and securely.
- Ensure the store is clean, organized, and well-stocked at all times.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with management and staff to ensure timely replenishment.
- Assist with store merchandising, ensuring product displays are appealing and accessible to customers.
Safety and Compliance:
- Enforce all company policies, procedures, and safety standards to ensure a secure and compliant work environment.
- Conduct routine safety checks and address potential risks proactively.
- Ensure all team members comply with food handling, alcohol sales (if applicable), and other regulatory requirements.
Communication and Coordination:
- Effectively communicate shift activities, issues, and updates to the Assistant Manager and Manager.
- Coordinate with management to implement store promotions, sales goals, and daily operations.
- Relay customer feedback and staff performance issues to management for continuous improvement.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform opening, closing, and cash management procedures as required, including balancing registers and completing shift reports.
- Monitor cash drawer accuracy and handle cash discrepancies as necessary.
- Perform light maintenance tasks such as cleaning, organizing, and ensuring the store is presentable for customers.
- Handle special tasks and projects assigned by management.
