OVERVIEW: The Maintenance Worker is responsible for the general repair and upkeep of the buildings and maintenance of the Sacramento Children’s Home and Crisis Nursery grounds, including aesthetics, to ensure they are in safe working condition for the children and staff.  The position requires an emphasis be placed on ensuring the Residential Program is maintained to meet Community Care Licensing Standards at all times.

 

 

DUTIES:

 

  • Walk through each residential cottage daily to look for items needing repair, cleaning outside of the scope of the residential program, and painting or touching up. Schedule/complete each item which needs correction
  • Make repairs to sheetrock and texture walls daily and/or when needed.
  • Repair, paint and replace fences as needed.
  • Assist repair/maintenance to complete work order, including but not limited to, plumbing, painting, carpentry, electrical, general repair/maintenance, etc.
  • Responsible for maintenance and repairs to the exterior of buildings.
  • Prepare necessary tools, supplies and equipment, coordinating with external vendors or contractors as necessary.
  • Periodically make preventative grounds maintenance inspections, properly record inspection, arrange for the correction of any noted problems and inform the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Paint rooms of cottages and behavior management center regularly.
  • Purchase and keep in stock all paint and paint supplies as approved by the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Ensure the lawns on campus, South Sacramento FRC and the crisis nurseries are mowed.
  • Ensure sidewalks are edged and blown off, bushes are trimmed back and weeds are sprayed and/or pulled on campus, at the South Sacramento FRC and at the crisis nurseries.
  • Maintain and repair sprinkler systems to keep them in working order including setting run times appropriate for the various seasons.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

 

LOCATION: 2750 Sutterville Rd., Sacramento, CA 95820

 

 

SCHEDULE:   Mon-Fri, 8:00am – 4:30pm

 

 

SALARY:         $23.44 - $26.37 per hour, to start

 

Plus $100 monthly stipend for bilingual candidates in Spanish, Russian, Hmong, Cantonese, Farsi (Dari), Vietnamese, or Arabic.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

 

A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.

 

One-year of experience in residential painting (patching and preparation) and general maintenance repairs is required.

 

Must be at least 21 years old

 

Driving is an essential function of this job, and as such, employees in this position will be required to furnish their own vehicle to be used in the course of employment. A valid driver’s license and minimum insurance coverage is required.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Knowledge of general plumbing, painting, carpentry, and electrical work.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use and operate various power tools, hand tools, garden equipment, painting equipment, etc.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics, including addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication.
  • Skill to plan and organize multiple tasks at one time.
  • Skill to communicate effectively in written and oral form.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain a safe working environment.
