ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS SPECIALIST AND ACCOMMODATIONS COORDINATOR 

The English Language Arts Specialist and Accommodations Coordinator will support the Learning Enrichment Center’s mission of supporting students so that they are set up for success within their classrooms and ultimately in their future collegiate and professional environments. Ideally, the candidate is an expert in fundamental literacy skills, writing instruction, and reading instruction. The specialist should also work to support students’ individual learning needs through tutoring sessions assisting them with their critical thinking skills, particularly as they relate to text analysis and written composition. Candidates should possess superb organizational skills, strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, and feel passionately about assisting students in their utilization of the available resources and academic supports.

As the Accommodations Coordinator, this individual will work with the Director of the LEC to review and file all documentation for students receiving accommodations. The Accommodations Coordinator will collaborate with the counseling department to file paperwork with College Board and ACT to ensure students have access to accommodations for those high-stakes exams. This individual will also coordinate special testing on campus for qualifying students.

English Language Arts and Accommodations Coordinator Responsibilities

  • As a member of the Response to Intervention team, collaborate with teachers to ensure students’ individual learning needs are met in one-on-one tutoring sessions
  • Collaborate with the English department to make recommendations regarding curriculum and instruction development and implementation
  • Communicate student progress with the LEC team, families, and faculty through the updating of Google Drive documents, one-on-one conversations, and through emails
  • Coordinate hall pass administration between study halls and Learning Enrichment Center
  • Maintain high standards of confidentiality, attendance, and flexibility while working cooperatively with supervisors, coworkers, and students
  • Maintain documentation for students receiving accommodations, including filing documentation with College Board and ACT for accommodation consideration.
  • Communicate frequently with the Learning Enrichment Center director to provide feedback and trouble-shoot.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

 

Education 

Required: Bachelor’s degree

Preferred: Reading Specialist training or certification

Experience 

Required: 5 years as an English teacher, expert in English Language Arts instruction and curriculum development 

Working Conditions 

Work is executed in an office space with pleasant working conditions. The work hours are 7:30 to 3:30. 

Physical Requirements 

May be required to exert physical effort of a limited nature as needed for events.
