About PSMC:  

Pagosa Springs Medical Center has an attractive facility in a scenic town. PSMC is an independent, patient-centered facility, which opened its doors in 2008. The medical center operates both a hospital and an outpatient rural health clinic. PSMC is licensed for 11 inpatient beds and has board certified physicians caring for patients via our level IV trauma center. PSMC offers a range of specialty services including orthopedics, general surgery, pulmonology, oncology, infusion cardiology, and neurology. PSMC has an on-site lab and diagnostic imaging including MRI, CT, ultrasound, x-ray, and mammography together with an on-site radiologist and access to Colorado’s largest team of tele-radiologists. Our outpatient clinic is attached to the hospital and has 32 exam rooms for primary care services, behavioral health, and our specialty clinic services. Our Medical Wellness Building offers physical therapy and pain management. PSMC offers a 24/7 emergency department, EMS/ambulance, and inpatient ward.

We are currently seeking a compassionate and knowledgeable Employee Health Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team in promoting the health and safety of our valued employees.

Position Overview:   

The Employee Health nurse develops and administers the Employee Health Program at Pagosa Springs Medical Center.  Responsibilities associated with this position include but are not limited to: 

  • Identification of work-related risks; 

  • Developing programs and strategies that reduce those risks; and 

  • Fitness for Duty program.   

This critical position participates in the new hire process by performing pre-employment health screenings and immunizations and maintaining appropriate documentation of employee health records.   

The Employee Health Nurse is a key member of the disaster response team, working closely with the Infection Preventionist to managing employee health issues related to the disaster or disaster response.   

The Employee Health Nurse provides education to staff that helps employees to understand their health and safety on the job.   

This positions works closely with the physician supervisor to develop protocols for managing employee health, including management of employee injuries and exposures. 

Qualifications

  • Base Compensation Range: $31.96 - $49.41 hourly, based on years of relevant experience ranging from 0 to 22 years of experience. "Relevant experience" means relevant to the employee's responsibilities set forth in the job description as determined by the HR Manager, CAO, applicable department manager/director and applicable senior leader.

Specific Departmental Operations:

Practices within the RN scope of care as defined by the State of Colorado.

 

Subject to leadership approval, the EH RN plans, develops, implements and revises the employee health program which addresses, at a minimum, the following:

    • The delivery of nursing care to sick or injured employees;
    • The monitoring of work related illness / injury trends and developing strategies to prevent / minimize work-acquired injury or illness;
    • The surveillance and reporting of annual influenza activity and other communicable diseases;
    • The coordination of pre-employment health screenings and immunizations with Human Resources;
    • The provision of required employee health visits and maintenance of documentation of such;
    • The provision of blood borne pathogen and other relevant annual education;
    • The management all employee exposures including assessment, treatment and follow-up;
    • The management of all pre-hospital service provider (law enforcement, fire department, EMS and other first responder) exposures including assessment, treatment, reporting and follow-up;
    • The management of Employee Health protocols in conjunction with physician supervision;
    • The management of a modified work program in coordination with the HR manager;
    • Development of Fitness for Duty Program
    • The management of a Respiratory Protection program;
    • The management of Medical Surveillance program for Oncology nursing / provider staff; and
    • The monitoring and follow-up from Employee Screening. Contact and follow-up with any employees reporting symptoms, showing a high temperature, or not completing screening when required.

Collects, analyzes and reports meaningful data using appropriate computer programs, i.e., Excel, Access.

Creates, develops and maintains necessary data tables and spreadsheets to support decision-making.  Is comfortable with data driven decision-making.

Creates and maintains relevant policies and procedures using best practice and current resources for employee health practices.

Works with the Infection Preventionist in monitoring work-related exposures.

Participates, in accordance with the approved employee health plan, in the quality assurance and performance improvement program.

Conducts new on-hire health screenings and annual employee health screenings to include health history, immunizations update, and brief physical assessment.

Refers employees with identifiable limitations and / or health risks to the appropriate resources.

Collaborates with Human Resources to ensure completion of all health screenings in a timely manner.

Conducts surveillance and follow-up of employee exposures to communicable diseases.

Plans, implements, and conducts annual Flu Vaccine program.

Plans and implements other vaccine programs as directed by APIC, CDC and other regulatory agencies, to include Tetanus and MMR.

Conducts TB screening for all new employees and other employees and volunteers according to the hospitals TB control plan.

Completes the annual CDC Tuberculosis Risk Assessment to determine the risk level and appropriate TB skin testing protocol for the upcoming year.

Conducts follow-up skin testing for all employee exposures.

Trends employee illnesses / injuries to identify safety and health issues.

Adheres to legal requirements pertinent to employee health and safety.

Maintains confidential employee health records separate from the EMR.

Maintains PAPR fleet; may work in conjunction with Respiratory Therapy for maintenance.

Applies appropriate charges for visits, immunizations, and supplies on a daily basis.

Ensures encounters without charges are correctly coded.

Maintains summaries and written reports required for employee illness / injury reporting.

Participates as an active member of the Infection Control Committee and on hospital-wide committees at the request of executive management.

Participates in the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement program as necessary.

Conducts new employee orientation related to Employee Health as needed.

Pursues professional growth and maintains specialized knowledge and skills in Occupational Health nursing practice by participating in professional organizations and on-going continuing education/in-service training with emphasis in OH practice.
