Description

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Specialty Pharmacy Technician assists patients, physicians, and pharmacists in the completion of benefit investigations, prior authorizations, financial assistance applications, refill/adherence activities, and other programs that drive optimal outcomes for United Digestive Pharmacy patients.  
 
REPORTS TO: Manager of Pharmacy Operations
 
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Receives inbound and initiates outbound calls to patients or physician offices regarding orders or prescription refill information for medications (under appropriate supervision of pharmacist), pharmacy services, and all other inquiries
  • Enter all patient information; name, date of birth, insurance information, allergies and medication history into our therapy-specific patient assessment software
  • Documents all communications, interactions and other information in the patient's medical record to ensure that all members of the care team are kept up to date; flags issues that need to be addressed
  • Initiating, completing and following up on the status of Prior Authorizations or appeals submitted to insurance carriers in order to support physician offices 
  • Explain insurance coverage to patients as it relates to their co-payment responsibility and financial resources available to them
  • Under the direction of a pharmacist, assists with the filling and distribution of prescriptions in accordance with the law.
  • Responsible to coordinate delivery/pick-up of medications with dispatch
  • Responsible for monthly follow-up calls to patients to discuss medication on hand, identify any barriers to patient adherence and facilitate discussions with the clinical staff to help the patient overcome barriers
  • Assists with payment collection 
  • Act as a liaison between the patient and their insurance company, foundations, and manufacturers. Enroll and coordinate patient financial assistance and support services, copay cards, funding assistance and manufacturer support programs.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED required; must be a registered pharmacy technician in the state of Georgia; PTCB Certification preferred; retail and specialty experience preferred. 
 
ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: 
Specialty Pharmacy Technician must be able to:
  • Provide a high level of customer service at all times
  • Plan, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks as delegated
  • Work under pressure; assess, respond to, and communicate issues in a timely manner
  • Maintain composure and set a professional example for coworkers
  • Communicate clearly with patients, clients, and coworkers through the telephone, email, and in-person
  • Build positive working relationships with Administrative Team, Office Managers, Ancillary Staff, Office Staff, and Providers
  • Interpret and apply appropriate policies and procedures
  • Be reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
  • Maintain the strictest confidentiality
PHYSICAL/MENTAL/ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS
Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment. Onsite presence at pharmacy is required. This is not a remote or hybrid position.
