Description

The purpose of an Emergency Medical Technician-Basic at Gold Cross Ambulance is to provide high-quality & efficient basic life support to all persons living in our service area.


Duties and Responsibilities:
1) Respond to ambulance calls (emergency & non-emergency) to provide efficient and immediate care to all patients.
2) Transport any patients that require continued care to an appropriate medical facility.
3) Transport patients from one medical facility to another per direct order.
4) When dispatched, drives ambulance to location given, using the most expeditious route.
5) Observes traffic ordinances & regulations pertaining to emergency vehicle operation.
6) Determines the nature & extent of illness or injury & establishes priority for required emergency medical care, rendering care to the level of the employees training.
7) Advises dispatch if & when additional help or special rescue services, and/or utility services are needed.
8) Assists in lifting the stretcher & placing in ambulance while seeing that the patient and stretcher are secured, while continuing patient care as necessary.
9) Constantly monitors patient condition while enroute destination.
10) Maintain communication with medical control at the receiving facility, while following the physician's orders.
11) Provided patient care within the confines of the patient care protocol and EMT scope of practice
12) Properly assists in transferring patients out of the ambulance & into receiving facility.
13) Reports verbally & in writing his/her observations, while caring for the patient at the scene & in transit, to the medical staff receiving the patient.
14) After each ambulance run, replaces all supplies used, makes careful check of all equipment so that ambulance is ready for the next run.
15) After each ambulance run, completes patient care report.
16) Ensures that assigned ambulance is clean (interior & exterior), kept neat & in an orderly condition.
17) Maintains familiarity with specialized equipment utilized by Gold Cross Ambulance Service, Inc.
18) Ambulance attendants & drivers should be equally trained regarding each other's duties and responsibilities, so that they may function independently or interchangeably in caring for multiple casualties.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
Current state of Wisconsin Emergency Medical Technician licensure.
One year of experience related to driving an ambulance and practicing in the field as an Emergency Medical Technician preferred
Current Basic Life Support (BLS)
Must have a valid driver's license
Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older.
