Job Summary

J Camps Junior Counselors are entering their junior or senior in high school.  Junior Counselors will support the senior counselors and the camp director by providing a safe and fun environment for the kids in camp. In addition, junior counselors will swim daily, bring a spirited and upbeat attitude, and help provide an awesome summer for kids in camp. 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES

  1. Assist Camp Program leaders and Senior Counselors with all aspects of the campers’ day (i.e. activities, swimming, lunch, clean-up and carpool)
  2. Learn the names of all campers in their group
  3. Follow a daily schedule and participate in activities with campers
  4. Learn, understand, and lead campers through emergency procedures
  5. Know and follow all safety guidelines to ensure camper safety during planned activities
  6. Organize and guide campers in successful participation of all camp activities
  7. Accept work direction from Senior Counselor, Camp Program leaders, specialists, and Camp Director
  8. Be an incredible role model
  9. Follow camp policies and procedures and communicate and report regularly to Camp Director regarding challenges, updates and concerns
  10. Identify and respond to camper behavior issues
  11. Interact with parents in a professional, courteous manner
  12. Actively participate in staff training and meetings
  13. Duties and responsibilities of camp counselors vary differently depending on various factors. Some of those factors are:
    • Age group of children
    • Theme of camps
    • Location of camp
    • Size of camp

These are not the only duties to be performed.  Some duties may be assigned as required.

 

Qualifications

  1. Must be at least a junior in High School Fall 2025
  2. Must attend Staff Training
  3. Must like children and have experience working with them
  4. Ability to take direction, complete assigned tasks and lead program activities.
  5. Energetic and enthusiastic
  6. Team Player
  7. Organized and self-motivated
  8. Willingness to be flexible and available to work occasional evenings and weekends as required.
  9. Willingness to perform job tasks not part of immediate job responsibilities
  10. Must be able to lift 25lbs and stand for extended periods of time.
  11. Upon hire, complete First Aid and CPR Certification (or re-certification expired)
  12. Must be fully vaccinated.
