JOB TITLE: Team Leader - Cast

REPORTS TO: Die Cast Supervisor

POSITION SCOPE

 

Associates are providing assistance to the die cast department as needed for relief of the original operator during break times, absences, and as needed when requested. Associates are required to operate die cast machines, trim presses, and all related equipment. Demonstrate the ability to perform basic quality checks and document performance on an hourly basis. Follow and adhere to safety regulations regarding the safe operation of die casting and trimming equipment. This associate is responsible for performing operations as necessary to maintain the die cast operations cell.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
 

  • Read, comprehend, and follow written work instructions and training procedures to perform any die casting and/or trim machine operation.
  • Perform simple process troubleshooting, die setting techniques, die maintenance, and minor machine maintenance. Diagnose and perform minor repairs on die cast and trim press machines, and robot gripper systems.
  • Train operators in cell job functions and perform relief for operators as needed.
  • Meet production targets (quoted rates) daily including uptime, scrap, and efficiency percentage.
  • Repair water, hot oil, and minor hydraulic leaks on die.
  • Responsible for pulling and setting slides as well as setting die halves and trim dies.
  • Responsible for identifying and resolving trim and cast defects prior to next step in manufacturing process.
  • Accurately enter data into production software and quality systems.
  • Detects and reports improper operations, faulty equipment, defective materials, and unusual conditions to proper supervisor.
  • Adapt to changing job tasks by learning new skills, undergoing cross-training, and operating various machines as per business needs. This may also involve working in different departments or classifications as required.
  • Accountable to complete all required production paperwork per instructions in production software each shift.
  • Responsible for all quality standards of the product being ran from 1st piece to last piece each shift. Produce quality parts per the process book.
  • Work safely around and/or while operating heaving equipment or manufacturing machinery.
  • Work overtime hours as required and be available for emergency overtime when the need arises.
  • Clean, maintain and ensure functionality of reclaimer units and vibes.
  • Regularly report for work on time with a desire to perform to the best of your abilities.
  • Perform Job Specific Training Form duties if available.
  • Complies with all company employment policies, procedures/processes, and programs. Performs duties in compliance quality, safety, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Assist with audits (Manufacturing Process, Layer Processed, 5s) and continuous improvement initiatives.  
  • Maintain clean and orderly work area per 5S standard.
  • Exhibit Companies Core Values and work cooperatively with others in a team environment.
  • Follow all standardized work instructions including quality inspection processes.
  • Communicate and exchange problem areas with supervisors and fellow coworkers.        
  • Other duties are assigned from time-to-time.

Qualifications

CERTIFICATION, EDUCATION, and WORK EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Experienced in Die Cast Operation preferred.
  • Able to put a robot into auto mode, maneuver through Panel View on Auto-Trim Presses, and operate a ladle and recip.
  • Able to run a manual trim press machine, automatic trim press machine, and be able to restart a die cast machine or robot as needed.
  • Knowledge of basic math, reading, and writing.
  • Cast Defect and Troubleshooting training.
  • High School Diploma preferred.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Experience in Lock Out/Tag Out, Crane Operation, and Forklift Operation preferred.

  • Possess good physical stamina and coordination. Specific physical requirements of the position include the ability to continuously and repetitively:
    • Walk and stand for prolonged periods of time.
    • Read standardized work instructions, operate machines and tools, and perform quality inspections.
    • Promptly detect and respond to visual and auditory safety instructions, alarms, and signals.
    • Wear personal protective equipment, for example: safety glasses, gloves, hats, ear plugs, long-sleeves, and steel-toed safety shoes.
    • Work in a loud manufacturing environment that is not climate controlled (conditions can be hot or cold).
  • Frequently and repetitively:
    • Climb, bend, push, pull, twist, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach to perform work.
