Description

The Fitness/ Spin Instructor position requires a certified instructor. Responsibilities include preparation of class exercises/routines, set-up and break-down of exercise space, monitoring the performance and safety of participants, providing feedback to participants, recoding participants attendance and logging any equipment issues. The Fitness/ Spin Instructor will cover other instructor’s classes when necessary.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Arrive 15 minutes prior to class to meet and greet participants.
  • Music volume is set at a safe and appropriate level for class (no one will be given earplugs).
  • Dress in staff uniform including shirt, name tag and designated gym pants (no jeans).
  • Supervise safety of participants.
  • Set up and break down group exercise studio including return of all equipment to appropriate storage area.
  • Assure that your Fitness class is properly covered in the event you are unable to teach a class. Staff roster is available at service desk.
  • Cover other classes for instructors when necessary.
  • Provide class orientations for new class participants.
  • Monitor performance of participants following safety guidelines recommended by certifying body for that modality.
  • Providing guidance and feedback to class participants when needed.  
  • Communicate all equipment maintenance issues with Fitness Director as well as logging them in the maintenance binder.
  • Record participant numbers on attendance log sheet.
  • Occasionally assist in special events or classes to promote group exercise and/or spin program when available. 
  • Microphone transmitter should be used with care. Return box to appropriate storage are & replace battery in charger for next instructor.
  •  You are responsible to purchase your own headset.
  • Attend all scheduled staff meetings and in-service trainings.
  • Maintain current certifications and attend a minimum of 1 continuing education courses per year.
  • Job responsibilities include access to protected health information. The employee may access protected health information (PHI) only to the extent that it is necessary for job requirements. May only share PHI with those who have a need to know specific member/participant/employee information in order to complete job responsibilities related to the individual’s participation, payment or company operations. Is expected to complete required HIPAA privacy training and maintain HIPAA compliance at all times.
  • The Fitness/ Spin Instructor has access to protected health information (PHI) of Y program participants. The Fitness/ Spin Instructor may use and disclose PHI to workforce members for the purpose of treatment, payment and operations only.
  • Actively participates in and upholds the YMCA’s mission to be open and accessible to everyone, regardless of financial situation or special need. Contributes time to raise funds for this worthy and necessary endeavor by supporting the Y’s Annual Giving and Capital Development campaigns.
