DEPT: Institutional Research and Effectiveness

JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Exempt

LOCATION: Lane College, Jackson, TN

JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE

The Assessment Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and managing comprehensive assessment activities across the institution. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the systematic collection, analysis, and use of assessment data to enhance educational quality, inform continuous improvement, and ensure institutional effectiveness. The role also includes coordination with academic and administrative units to meet assessment compliance and accreditation requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the design and implementation of institutional assessment processes to evaluate academic, co-curricular, and administrative effectiveness.
  • Develop assessment plans that align with the College’s mission, goals, and accreditation standards.
  • Chair or serve on assessment committees, facilitate meetings, and ensure alignment with institutional goals.
  • Collaborate with Institutional Research to analyze assessment data and generate actionable reports for stakeholders.
  • Support academic and non-academic units in developing student learning and program outcomes.
  • Assist in preparing documentation to support compliance with SACSCOC accreditation standards.
  • Maintain a centralized repository of assessment reports and evidence for institutional use.
  • Promote a campus-wide culture of assessment through training, consultation, and workshops.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Good customer service abilities, excellent communication skills (oral and written), professional sound judgment, and effective time and task management abilities are required. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Master’s degree in Education, Institutional Research, Assessment, or a related field. Minimum of three years of experience in assessment, institutional research, or a related field, preferably in a higher education setting.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to prepare correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to interpret statistical and analytical data related to assessment. Proficiency with assessment tools and understanding of measurement theory is preferred.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES

Requires the ability to operate a variety of standard business machines, such as a computer and job-related software, keyboard, calculator, telephone, fax, photocopier, shredder, etc. Strong facilitation skills and experience with accreditation standards (e.g., SACSCOC) are preferred.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The employee is regularly required to sit, use hands, and communicate. Occasionally must lift up to 25 pounds.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Primarily an office environment. May be occasionally exposed to dust or electrical components. Noise level is generally moderate.
