Job Description:
The Special Education Teacher works under the supervision of the Head of School and the Academic Dean to provide additional learning support and instruction to students on IEPs in accordance with CEC's academic philosophy, goals, and objectives.

Ideal Candidate:
- Possesses a BA or MA in Education or related field and has an active Colorado teaching license with a Special Education endorsement
- Demonstrates a history of effectiveness working with a broad variety of learners with IEPs and/or behavioral plans; understands the fundamentals and procedures of effective behavioral services, including an awareness of evidence-based approaches
- Has a track record of effective communication with colleagues, parents, and supervisors
- Demonstrates a commitment to ethical standards of behavior and performance
- Celebrates neurodiversity and creates a culture of acceptance and inclusion within the classroom
Job Duties:

Develops, plans, prepares, and implements:

Course content, format, and classroom and student schedules
-
Classroom materials, activities, and lesson plans
-
Creates a positive classroom culture and instructs students with a wide range of skills in large and small groups, as well as in one-on-one settings

Supervises behavior and well-being of students in the classroom and all educational settings
-
Upholds principals of classroom safety and administers discipline in accordance with school policy when appropriate

Conducts assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations of students for the purpose of developing Individual Educational Plans (IEP), goals, objectives, and transition plans

Monitors student learning and progress to:
-
Evaluate success of educational approaches, specialized instruction, supports and services, and adapts support as needed

Maintains documentation pertinent to academic, social, and emotional progress and needs of students

Communicates student progress and needs to parents/guardians and appropriate staff as needed and proactively schedules staff and parent IEP meetings; maintains IEP related data collection, records, and documentation for compliance

Assists in supervision, direction, and scheduling of special education paraprofessionals

Collaborates with teachers, support personnel, administrators, and other special education providers or outside agencies to enhance instruction, improve student outcomes, and promote student success

Participates in all department, team, building, and district meetings and discussions, as required

Performs other duties as assigned
