Duties & Responsibilities

Reports to: SR Dean of Academics

Status: Part-time (10-15 hours per week)
 

Basic Function

To assist with non-teaching tasks in the classroom, supporting our science instructors who are focused on curriculum development and other tasks. With guidance from the instructor, tasks may include setting out lab and demo equipment prior to the first period class, then cleaning up and putting away the equipment after the last period class. Other tasks include proctoring exams, and grading assignments. 

 

Duties & Responsibilities  

  1. Support SR science classes, particularly core classes, 9th-grade Physics and 10th-grade Chemistry.  Other elective classes may also need assistance from the TA.
  2. Assist in setting up for labs and cleaning and putting away equipment afterwards.
  3. Assist in setting up and cleaning up demonstration equipment.
  4. Assist and/or proctor labs (with clear direction from the instructor).
  5. Proctor exams.
  6. Help with grading.
  7. Supporting classes with general tasks that can free up time for the instructors.

 

Qualifications

Required Personal Qualities

  1. Have received Jesus Christ as his/her personal Savior and believe that the Bible is God’s Word and standard for faith and daily living.
  2. Be in whole-hearted agreement with Veritas Academy’s Statements on Faith, Life, and Conduct.
  3. Be a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and action toward others (Luke 6:40). This includes being committed to God’s biblical standards for sexual conduct.
  4. Be a Christian who is, and will remain during the period of employment, an active member of a Christ-centered church, growing in his/her Christian relationship with God, and actively practicing and exhibiting Christian principles of the Christian faith. 
  5. Be spiritually mature and consistently maintain a daily devotional and prayer life.
  6. Recognize the role of parents as primarily responsible before God for their children’s education and be prepared to assist them in that task.

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Understand this is a support position helping instructors with time-consuming tasks.
  2. The candidate needs to be clean with a penchant for tidiness – it is imperative we keep classrooms and supply closets clean and in order - everything in its place.
  3. The candidate does not need to know science topics, but should be unafraid of them.  The instructors will give you plenty of guidance on lab-related assistance.
  4. Hold students to an academic standard when proctoring tests.
  5. Detail oriented.
  6. Able to work independently.
  7. OK with cleaning up after a class full of students completing labs - lots of glassware, chemicals, and equipment.
  8. Willing to learn new skills.

 

Required Education and Experience

  1. High School diploma 

 

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Bachelor's degree
