Role:

 

It Takes a Village Family of Schools, in partnership with the Illinois Youth Investment Program (IYIP), is proud to offer the “Grow-Your-Own” apprenticeship program, Pathways to Power. This paid apprenticeship provides the opportunity to build a career in education, youth leadership, and community service, with the option to pursue one of two tracks: Early Childhood Education or Youth Development (Elementary Education).

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:​​​

 

  • Deliver a high standard of learning, development, and care for children aged 0-5 years (ECE) or kindergarten through 8th grade (Youth Development)

  • Be a reliable, flexible, and cooperative team member, contributing positively to a collaborative environment

  • Ensure the safety and well-being of children, staff, and visitors

  • Develop partnerships with parents/guardians to increase engagement in children's growth and education

  • Complete tasks delegated by the Lead Teacher 

  • Fulfill all program requirements, including Illinois WorkNet and Casey Lifeskills

Early Childhood Education (ECE)

  • Support Lead Teachers in planning and implementing age-appropriate activities for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers

  • Assist with classroom setup, materials preparation, and clean-up for play-based learning

  • Help children with self-care routines (e.g., diapering, toileting, meals/snack time)

  • Observe and document developmental milestones and learning progress

  • Support children’s social-emotional development through guided interactions, play, and modeling behavior

  • Provide one-on-one or small group support for children needing extra guidance

  • Maintain a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment

  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and collaborative planning

Youth Development (Elementary Education)

  • Assist Lead Teachers in K–8 classrooms, supporting instruction and classroom management

  • Assist with lesson plan preparation, setting up instructional materials, and delivering content in individual and small-group settings

  • Develop and lead after-school clubs in STEM, arts, dance, or sports

  • Provide small group or individual support to students needing academic or behavioral guidance

  • Monitor and encourage positive student behavior, engagement, and collaboration

  • Assist with the organization of classroom materials, technology, and instructional resources

  • Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and culturally responsive learning environment

  • Participate in planning, program design, and professional development opportunities

Location(s): Early Childhood Education: (South Loop, Humboldt Park, Austin)
  Youth Development: ITAV Leadership Academy (South Loop, Bronzeville)

 

 

Position Type: Full-Time


Salary Range: $16.60/hr
Please note: This position may be tied to grant funding 

 

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Must be 18–24 years old

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • Must complete physical exam, TB test, and fingerprint background check
