Description

Responsible for repairing defects in casting by Mig and/or Tig welding and other welding needs in the plant.  Responsible for blending the repaired portion back to the specs of the part, and other finishing/grinding needs of the plant. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

Repairs porosity, shrink, flowlines, cosmetic defects in castings.

Selects the correct welding rod for the alloy of the part being repaired.

Calculates and sets controls to regulate welding machine factors for proper volts, AC or DC, and proper pressure on Argon gas.

Handle castings in a careful manner to prevent nicks and surface flaws.

Handle daily routine maintenance on equipment.

Maintain good housekeeping procedures in work area.

Smooth parts back to the original shape and contour

Help with maintenance projects and additional grinding work as needed.

The job has no supervisory responsibilities.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Vocation Certification in Welding and Fabrication, preferred

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High School diploma or equivalent, preferred.  Must be able to pass all applicable certification tests when required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to print simple correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add and subtract using whole numbers.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and oral form.  Ability to define problems, collect data and draw valid conclusions.
