Program Description: ChiArts hosts an annual three-week summer camp designed for students in grades 6-8 to explore the artistic disciplines of Band, Creative Writing, Dance, Vocal Music, Theatre, and Visual Arts in a joyful and nurturing environment, led by artists from The Chicago High School for the Arts. Campers will receive pre-professional training in the arts from ChiArts faculty and alumni teaching artists.

 

Job Summary: 

The Camp Counselor will be the assistant for the Camp Coordinator during Summer Camp.  This person will need to be available for various tasks with students and around the building.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Assisting with arrivals and departures of students
  • Supervising students during breaks and lunch periods
  • Rotate among rooms to ensure safety
  • Assist with preparations for performances mid-camp and for camp finale
  • Leave campus to get food for student helpers
  • Communicate with parents and teachers

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Must be able to commit to working for the entire three weeks of camp July 7th – 25th, Monday-Friday, 8:00am-2:30pm as well as a training session in June
  • Prior experience working with children in activities, such as those at a camp, daycare, or school preferred
  • Must be able to remain calm under pressure and be able to solve problems as they arise
  • Step into classrooms to assist with particular projects or lessons
  • Must be enthusiastic, energetic, and have excellent communication skills
  • Organization, punctuality, and a dedication to working with children is essential
  • Commitment to sharing and learning through the arts and the ChiArts mission 

 

Pay rate:  $17.00/hr.
