PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

AMU offers paid internships to students or new graduates who are immediately available and can commit to up to a 12-month internship. We provide outstanding education and growth opportunities to qualified, hard-working, self-motivated, poised, and articulate candidates. Internships average 20-40 hours per week, depending on applicant's availability and department needs. 

INTERNSHIP OBJECTIVES

•    Acquire an overall view of multiple facets of the media industry
•    Gain a basic understanding of internal and external communications in a fast-paced business environment 
•    Enhance organization skills with a focus on concise, compelling, persuasive writing for a variety of touch points, including sales, B2B marketing, email and content marketing
•    Professional development 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR HIRE

•    Students of or recent graduates with a degree in Business, Journalism/Strategic Communications, English, or Marketing. 
o    Current students must have a minimum of 60 hours of college credit earned at time of application
•    Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe InDesign
•    Attentive to detail, with outstanding copywriting and proofreading skills
•    Able to work autonomously, balance and prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines

Responsibilities & Qualifications

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

•    Writing press releases for humor, kids, RPG, poetry/general trade titles
•    Coordinating publicity mailings for new titles and other special campaigns 
•    Awards submission management (includes researching upcoming awards, preparing submissions, etc.)
•    Copywriting and visual assets as needed for social media, digital marketing landing pages and publishing websites
•    Social media posting and management support
•    Managing and distributing publicity list changes
•    Overseeing Goodreads giveaway winner mailings
•    Sitting on author marketing calls for notes/agenda items
•    Researching publicity leads 
•    Assist with digital marketing promotion for virtual events
•    NetGalley content maintenance and analysis
     o    Review admin 
     o    Pulling, summarizing, and distributing title reports
     o    Tracking title performance by category for EOY analysis
•    Trade advertising and event support
     o    Building giveaway landing pages
     o    Ordering and fulfilling prizes, corresponding with winners
     o    Tracking ad results and prepping data for EOY analysis
     o    Pulling assets for trade ads and materials as needed
•    Email marketing copywriting, formatting, and lead management
•    Audiobook publicity
     o    Compiling rough selection of suitable bloggers etc. for each month’s titles
•    Catalogs
     o    Edelweiss and issuu.com – creating and updating catalogs

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

•    Able to work effectively within cross-functional teams to accomplish goals
•    Excellent written and verbal communications skills
•    Detail oriented
•    Is a creative and proactive problem solver; raises issues or questions with a possible solution/course of action
•    Able to be highly organized on deadline in an often fast-moving environment
•    Works comfortably and effectively in a dynamic environment; currently working remotely until January 2021 at the earliest
•    Builds relationships across numerous stakeholders; comfortable and competent working up, down, and across levels in the organization
•    Thinks creatively and has a point of view; proactively offers valuable ideas and recommendations
•    Prior experience working with email marketing platforms a plus
•    Copywriting for marketing campaigns and sales support materials
•    Graphic design skills and familiarity with Adobe Suite a plus
•    Familiarity with digital email platforms (Hubspot/Mail Chimp) a plus
