SUMMARY

The Dance Arts Instructor is responsible for assisting the Dance Arts Supervisor with planning and implementing the curriculum set forth for the Dance Arts Conservatory. The Dance Arts Instructor is responsible for performing the essential functions as outlined in this description.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Experience working with children, youth, and adults
  • At least 10 years intensive, continuous dance training
  • Continued development of skills and knowledge through specific training, education, and/or workshops.
  • Positive CAN-DO team attitude

SUPERVISION

The Dance Arts Instructor is directly responsible to the Dance Arts Supervisor


TRAINING CAN BE OBTAINED THROUGH CHAMPAIGN PARK DISTRICT

  • CPR, First Aid, and AED certification through American Heart Association or accredited agency
  • Concussion training through Center for Disease Control
  • Facility training
  • Bloodborne pathogen training
  • Harassment Prevention training
  • Mandated reporter certification
  • MR Acknowledgement sheet
  • Anyone who will be driving a Champaign Park District vehicle will need to complete and pass a driving test from one of our certified Champaign Park District trainers

CLASSIFICATION

  • Non-exempt, hourly
  • Part-time

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Follow all Champaign Park District safety policies and perform all work in a manner that ensures the safety of the public, fellow employees, and themselves
  • Assist with planning, organizing, and implementing the Dance Arts classes and activities
  • Updates class attendance sheets every day classes meet
  • Wears appropriate attire during working hours
  • Maintains a safe environment at all times
  • Provides the Dance Arts Supervisor with written and oral evaluations of the classes/activities
  • Responsible for maintaining and keeping all equipment and supplies in proper storage areas
  • Completes time sheets, accident reports, etc. in a timely manner
  • Helps the Dance Arts Supervisor track make-up and drop-in students
  • Communicates effectively with staff, students, and parents
  • Attends Dance Arts staff meetings
  • Assists the Dance Arts Supervisor with outreach initiatives.
  • Assists with the annual dance performance
  • Assists with tech week responsibilities
  • Schedules and leads rehearsals preparing students effectively for performances

PSYCHOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS

  • Must be able to present in front of a group while demonstrating dance.

PHYSIOLOGICAL CONSIDERATIONS

  • Extensive physical fitness
  • Must be able to demonstrate the following to participants:
  • Stretching, kicking, squatting, bending, twisting, stepping, jumping, and other movements related to dance
  • Extended periods of time with elevated heart rate
  • Must be able to lift supplies and equipment (approximately up to 50 pounds) when needed
  • Must be willing and able to administer 1st Aid and/or CPR if needed

ENVIRONMENTAL CONSIDERATIONS

  • Must be able to work in a shared office environment
  • Work under pressure with interruptions
  • Must be able to teach in changing work environment depending on where classes are scheduled
  • Must be able to teach in facilities without air conditioning and occasionally teach outdoors in changing temperatures

COGNITIVE CONSIDERATIONS

  • Must be able to represent the district in a positive manner
  • Must be able to work well with people, resolve problems fairly and with judgment in keeping with the mission of the district
  • Should exercise creativity and resourcefulness in developing and implementing fitness classes
  • Must be able to respond quickly and accurately to changing project conditions
  • Should be safety conscious at all times
