TITLE: Camp Counselor (FLSA non-exempt) R 11.13

SUPERVISOR: Recreation Services Manager

EDUCATION &
EXPERIENCE:
Attends high school or college, must be 16 years of age.
First Aid/CPR certification

QUALIFICATIONS: Prior camp experience.
Prior experience working with children.
CPR/AED certification preferred.

HOURS: 8:45am-3:15pm (unless otherwise notified).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS:
Plans and implements a variety of recreational activities for specific age group daily.
Understand principles, practices, and objectives of community recreation.
Demonstrate ability to supervise children in recreational setting.
Learn and implement necessary policies or procedures of camp.
Communicate regularly with the camp leader regarding the camp operation and incidents.
Attend weekly staff meetings.
Notify Camp Leader of camp supply needs.
Keeps first aid supplies with them at all times.
Maintain control of the group using positive discipline techniques.
Complete all accident/incident forms correctly and notify Camp Leader.
Stay with camp until all campers are released to parent or to after camp program.
Accurately record attendance/dismissals.
Cooperate with other staff in a positive manner.
Provide a safe, engaging, and fun environment for all children and staff.
Performs the job safely and in compliance with Park District policies, procedures, work and safety rules.
Work as scheduled.

Qualifications

MARGINAL
FUNCTIONS:
Coordinate assistance as needed from the Camp Leader and Camp Coordinator.
Coordinate assistance as needed from Building Attendants and Guest Services.
Perform other duties or special projects as assigned.

Employee must maintain a positive working relationship with subordinates, co-workers and the general public.
Employee must possess the ability to deal with residents, staff and job responsibilities under stressful conditions.
Employee must have the ability to hire, train, supervise and evaluate staff.

Employee may be exposed to noise distractions from employees or equipment operation in adjacent work areas.
