The Learning Strategist reports to the Head of the Lower School, and is supported and guided by the Director of Student Support as part of a cross-divisional team of Learning Strategists. In addition to close partnership with teachers and students, the Learning Strategist works with Admissions and school counselors as part of the school’s overall program of educating young people. 

 

Anticipated start date: August 1, 2024

Supervisor: Head of the Lower School

Position Status:  This position is a salaried, exempt, full-time, regular, 10-month position with 3 days of on-campus cross divisional work before New Faculty Forum.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relevant undergraduate degree; advanced degree strongly preferred

  • Demonstrated expertise in the cognitive and psychosocial development of children ages 5-12

 OPPORTUNITIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administer and interpret psychoeducational/neuropsychological reports

  • Translate findings into concrete strategies for teachers and students

  • Empower students through academic coaching 

  • Educate teachers on scientifically validated ways to engage students, design assessments, and maximize learning and retention

  • Consult with parents and administrators to maximize success opportunities for at-risk students

  • Remain current with research-based teaching methods

  • Provide feedback on and evaluation of students during the admission process

  • Connect with internal and external mental health professionals to assess and refer students 

  • Contribute to the larger school community through sponsoring extracurricular programs, clubs and/or coaching sports

 The position runs August - May and follows school holidays.

In addition to experience and a strong educational background, top candidates will demonstrate a love of working with Lower School students, an engaging teaching style, the ability to interact well with parents and colleagues, and a willingness to create and promote an inclusive learning environment.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; and engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out.. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.  Ability to become CPR and First Aid Certified.

 

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and may frequently walk on slippery or uneven surfaces.  The noise level in the work environment is frequently loud.

 

TRAVEL

Travel is primarily local during the regular business day.  Overnight and out-of-area travel may also be required.
