Description

 

Maryland Auto Insurance is a Property & Casualty Insurance carrier and independent agency of the State of Maryland. We’re located in the Locust Point neighborhood of Baltimore, featuring a variety of restaurant and shopping options in walking distance from the office. This position is ideal for candidates who desire flexible work schedules.  The incumbent will be required to come into the office a minimum of two days per month.

 

Responsibilities

 

An adjuster in this role would determine coverage, investigate liability, recognize recovery potential, handle property damage and bodily injury claims.

 

The candidate should have excellent time management, organizational, and communication skills. The adjusters would report to a Claims Supervisor and focus on resolving claims with the best resolution.

 

The adjuster would plan and manage claims investigations, primarily handling physical damage and casualty exposures. The duties include taking detailed recorded statements, collect documentation, secure evidence and conduct searches using industry data bases. The adjuster would handle moderate to severe claims. The adjuster’s daily responsibilities include:

  • Analyzes case facts to make proper handling decisions and recommendations
  • Communicates with all parties involved in a claim
  • Conducts necessary liability and injury investigations by gathering all evidence to determine liability and if/what damages owed
  • Collects and verifies necessary information to determine application of coverage and liability
  • Analyzes relevant medical data with respect to the connection between the injury claimed and the loss
  • Refers appropriate cases to supervisor for direction and authority
  • Opens, closes and maintains various reserves under all coverages
  • Evaluates exposures under all coverages and makes payments within established draft authority
  • Documents all activities involved in the handling of the claim in the appropriate files and systems
  • Evaluates and negotiates bodily injury settlements
  • Maintains a pro-active diary for timely follow up
  • Responds to all phone calls and written communications timely
  • Performs other duties as required

 

Qualifications

 

Education

   Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

 

Experience

  • Four or more years of experience in investigating, adjusting and settling complex multi-line claims, with an emphasis on general liability, automobile liability and bodily injury
  • Working knowledge of tort law, claim values, and jurisdictional issues for Maryland
  • AIC, AINS, SPPA, ANFI, AMIM or other insurance industry designations or related course work

Bilingual (preferred)

  

 

 

 

Additional Information

This position will report to a Casualty Claims Supervisor and will not supervise other employees. This is a flextime position scheduled for 40 hours each week. Duties of the position may require work during evenings, weekends, or holidays. Additional hours worked, with prior supervisory approval, will be compensated as compensatory time.
